A total of 171 fixed penalty notices have been issued by police across Greater Manchester to people flouting coronavirus lockdown laws, new figures revealed today.
Nationally, almost 9,000 fines have been dished out. Police chiefs here said the youngest person to receive a fine was 18, with the oldest aged 52.
On one occasion, GMP said officers stopped and fined four young men who had travelled into Manchester from Yorkshire to buy burgers.
The force also admitted house parties were posing 'a particular challenge'. GMP's Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes stressed the 'vast majority of people' were adhering to the legislation - and ultimately saving lives.
