Iggy Pop dug a selection of Stooges songs from out of the archives for the first time in over a decade with Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Nick Zinner, Matt Sweeney, and more in tow.During an appearance at California’s No Values Festival, Pop brought together an all-star band to dust off some old classics in his first show of 2024 and the first since wrapping up the touring cycle for his 2023 album ‘Every Loser’.Joining him on stage was Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Chavez frontman Matt Sweeney, The Armed’s Uriah Hackney, Las Nubes leader Ale Campos, multi-instrumentalists Joan As Police Woman and Pam Amsterdam, and jazz trombonist Corey D. King.The set was only made up of two of Pop’s own songs, ‘Lust For Life’ and ‘The Passenger’.

Don’t get down, don’t let yourself get down,” the legendary singer continues before mimicking a chirpy TV morning show host.Elsewhere, Pop recalls receiving an open letter from U2 frontman Bono: “He said, ‘In rock ‘n’ roll, or modern popular music, there is a sort of regency in which certain people occupy the castle and pull up the drawbridge. Iggy Pop has been announced as the recipient of this year’s Polar Music Prize.The former Stooges frontman and solo icon will pick up the award at a ceremony in Stockholm in Sweden on May 24.In an official video announcing the winner, the Polar Music Prize hailed Pop as a “one-of-a-kind” artist. “And with his poetic lyrics and provocative stage presence, he is considered the godfather of punk music,” a voiceover added.Pop said: “I was aware of the very fine range of people that have gotten the Polar Music Prize.

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox have covered The Stooges’ classic ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ as part of their ongoing Sunday Lunch video series.The couple began the bitesize YouTube covers series at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and quickly went viral for their versions of famous songs by the likes of Nirvana, Metallica, Guns ’N Roses, Britney Spears and more.In this week’s (December 19) Sunday Lunch video, Fripp and Willcox put their spin on The Stooges’ 1969 single.
