Filmmaker Peyton Reed badly wants to make a “Star Wars” film. We know this because he’s already spent a lot of time directing Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” spin-off series “The Mandalorian,” and because his new ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’ film, ‘Quantumania,’ is essentially a big-budget “Star Wars” movie.

With “Wakanda Forever” and “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special” in the rearview mirror, Marvel has officially closed the books on their Phase 4 slate. And so, Phase 5, the new chapter that will lead into the next big Avengers film and what’s known as The Infinity Saga, kicks off with February’s “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.” READ MORE: The 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2023 The film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne alongside Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton (as Scott Lang’s daughter, who looks like she’ll be her own new hero in the movie), David Dastmalchian, and Randall Park (Bill Murray has a role too, it’s undisclosed, but the rumor is the Marvel villain M.O.D.O.K.

“Daredevil: Born Again” arrives next year as the final MCU show slated for Phase 5, with a Spring 2024 release on Disney+. Will fans be able to wait that long for the revival of Marvel‘s earlier Netflix series? Well, there’s plenty of other MCU content on the way to hold them over.

As we close the chapter on another year in film, it’s hard not to recognize just how omnipresent the superhero film genre has become. Sure, it’s been growing steadily over the past decade, but 2022, despite a couple of years of COVID slowdowns, has been the biggest year yet for the genre, especially when you consider the huge number of projects arriving on TV screens.

As the MCU transitions to Phase 5, more and more older Marvel characters get phased out. And at this point, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor is now the longest-serving Avenger in the MCU, which is kind of hard to believe.

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is making the rounds to promote his nonfiction novel “Cinema Speculation” and, while speaking with Elvis Mitchell during the book tour (via IndieWire) in NYC, dished out some tiny details about the script for his tenth and final film. READ MORE: Quentin Tarantino Has TV Limited Series Coming In Early 2023, No Plot Details Yet The writer/director revealed that the untitled project would come from an “original script” rather than being an adaptation like his fantastic film “Jackie Brown,” which Tarantino adapted/reimagined from the Elmore Leonard crime novel, “Rum Punch.” However, he was once tempted to adapt Lenoard’s book “Stick” but has since moved away from that idea.

It’s hard to not see how a Marvel Comics character like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange has taken over the surrogate role of MCU leader post-Tony Stark as the cinematic universe has entered The Multiverse Saga, Strange’s domain. However, the British actor seemingly finds it hard to get those deeply emotional or character-driven scenes when you don’t have much screen time to play with in specific instances when they’re simply aiming to move the story along.  As Cumberbatch tells The Talks in a recent interview, when you only have five minutes in a massive Marvel movie like “The Avengers,” it can be tough as an actor to land the emotional aspects when the development of character isn’t exactly the focus and it can be mostly about servicing the story at hand.  READ MORE: Neil Gaiman & Guillermo Del Toro Pitched A ‘Doctor Strange’ Movie To Marvel That Would Have Taken Place In The 1920s “It’s not some sort of acting gym where you’re stripping off layers of self to reveal a layer of truth all the time,” said Cumberbatch.

Once upon a time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino nearly directed a “Star Trek” movie. But don’t expect him to sign up for the MCU anytime soon.

Marvel Studios continues to pump out a multitude of content for Disney+ as the streaming service has thrived thanks partly to the superhero originals alongside the “Star Wars” shows from Lucasfilm. While projects like a “Black Panther” spinoff series and a show focused on Avengers member “Wonder Man” are being developed, there’s still much more to come.

For more than a decade, Marvel Studios was nearly perfect when it comes to behind-the-scenes shakeups with its film productions. Outside of the very public breakup with Edgar Wright over the original “Ant-Man” film, everything else went to plan in the MCU when it came to choosing filmmakers.

Letitia Wright has been in some of the biggest films of all time, playing a superhero for Marvel Studios. But her role in the new movie, “The Silent Twins,” directed by celebrated Polish auteur Agnieszka Smoczynska (“Lure“), might have been one of the most intense productions she has experienced in her career thus far.

Boy, oh boy, did film fans have a busy weekend the last few days or what? While they didn’t unveil the entire cast of “The Fantastic Four,” or whatever it is fans are griping about at the moment, Marvel Studios did reign over Disney’s D23 Expo much as they did at San Diego Comic-Con, earlier this summer, basically owning the entire affair yet again. And let’s face it, there were plenty of announcements.

While Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been in eleven MCU films to date – including pretty significant roles in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Captain Marvel” – the character’s never had a solo movie before.

Back in 2014, while director James Gunn was on the promotional tour for “Guardians of The Galaxy,” he said that he was interested in making a “Thunderbolts” movie and got the nod from studio head Kevin Feige that it could be on the table if “Guardians” was successful. It’s now 2022, and Marvel is moving forward with that project without Gunn, who might have scratched that itch after making “The Suicide Squad” and the HBO Max series “Peacemaker.” It was revealed back in June that “Frank & Robot” director Jake Schreier would be helming the film, and while not a lot of details were revealed in the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, the film was given a summer 2024 release date, July 26, 2024, to be exact.

We’ve heard plenty of opinions on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s impact on the landscape of studio filmmaking and the theatrical market. Some directors have minced no words about the dominance of the superhero blockbuster potentially having a negative influence on both.

It’s the first week of May, and you know what that means, right? The Marvel Studios machine has pumped out another feature and is ready to take over the world yet again. This time, we get “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and boy, oh boy, The Playlist Podcast has some thoughts.

As has been evident in the Marvel Studios releases over the past year, the multiverse is here and it’s not going away anytime soon. We’ve seen it in “Loki” and “What If?” on Disney+.

How is Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige going to introduce mutants and the X-Men, specifically, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We don’t really have any idea, at this point. And when you talk to famed ‘X-Men’ franchise producer-filmmaker Simon Kinberg, he’s not sure either, but he’s willing to bet it’s going to be great, regardless.
