Singer Lily Allen and Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne are among those who have been honoured at the annual WhatsOnStage awards.While Lily is best-known for smash-hits like LDN and Smile, recently the star has been proving her talents as a stage actor through her role in 2:22 – A Ghost Story.In the play, the songwriter portrays Jenny, a woman convinced her house is haunted, with the audience following along as she attempts to make her friends and family believe her.Her West End debut was recognised in a big way at the WhatsOnStage theatre awards on Sunday, as she won the award for best performer in a female-identifying role in a play.The prestigious theatre awards have been renamed for the first time this year to make them more inclusive.Her castmate, Jake Wood, won in the best supporting performer in a male-identifying role category, while the stage play itself took home the coveted award for best new play.Meanwhile Eddie, who is preparing for the release of the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, was crowned the winner of best performer in a male-identifying role in a musical for his role in Cabaret.The actor, 40, plays The Emcee in the iconic 1966 musical.They weren’t the only big names being honoured at the annual awards at the Prince of Wales Theatre: James McAvoy again proved his versatility as a screen and stage actor with his win.The Split star went home with the award for best performer in a male-identifying role in a play after his acclaimed outing as Cyrano in play Cyrano de Bergerac, which also won the ward for best play revival.Cyrano de Bergerac is also currently in cinemas, with the titular character played by the legendary Peter Dinklage.Also honoured at the stage and theatre awards
