James McAvoy and Claire Foy star in mystery thriller My Son, an English-language remake of 2017 French film Mon garçon.Directed by Christian Carion, who also helmed the French original, the film follows absent father Edmond Murray (McAvoy) who returns to Scotland to search for his missing son with his ex wife Joan (Foy).McAvoy was only given the character’s backstory while shooting the film, with his dialogue for Edmond improvised throughout.After saving Ethan from the child kidnapping ring, Joan and Edmond are seen standing in a field as their son operates a remote control quadcopter. Edmond then bids Ethan farewell but promises he’ll eventually be back, as he’s taken away by Inspector Roy (Gary Lewis).Roy and Edmond drive off, with it made clear that he’s been arrested.

You might hear the title, Driving Madeleine (French title: Une Belle Course), and then read the logline about a driver taxiing a 92-year old woman around Paris and instantly think “Aha! It is a French Driving Miss Daisy!” Well, having absolutely nothing to do with that 1989 Best Picture Oscar winner that so memorably starred Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, the two films do have something in common. They are both irresistibly cast with exceptional veteran stars who each grab the heart and never let go.

K.J. Yossman Pathé feature “Driving Madeleine” has been acquired by Parkland Entertainment for a U.K. and Ireland theatrical release, Variety can confirm.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Cohen Media Group has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “Driving Madeleine,” a stirring new drama directed Oscar-nominated filmmaker Christian Carion (“Joyeux Noel”), and starring Dany Boon (“Bienvenue chez les ch’tis”). The film is playing in the Official Selection at the Toronto Film Festival. Besides “Joyeux Noel,” Carion’s wide-ranging films include the Cold War spy thriller “Farewell,” the World War II tale “Come What May,” the mystery “My Son,” and the rural drama “The Girl from Paris.”  “Driving Madeleine” stars Boon as Charles, a taxi driver in Paris who is struggling under mounting stress. His debts are coming due, his driver’s license is in danger of being suspended because of numerous fines, and his marriage is falling apart. He has no way of knowing his life is about to be transformed when he picks up Madeleine, a 92-year-old woman who is soon to move into a care facility. She asks Charles to make certain stops during what may be her last ride through the city. Charles grumbles but is slowly charmed by Madeleine’s warmth and fascinated by her tales as she slowly reveals the dramatic and shocking story of her life.

He was 79.There was a certain retro quality to the actor’s persona that made Ward seem more akin to Humphrey Bogart or John Garfield (although not quite with those actors’ level of charisma) than to his contemporaries, and it did not seem at all affected.

Co-writer/director Christian Carion (“Joyeux Noel”) adapts his own 2017 French film of the same name, which was unexpectedly dropped to Peacock after forgoing the theatrical or VOD route (it will also be on The Roku Channel in December, making this deal even stranger).

Depending on your thoughts about English-language remakes, you’re either going to love or hate this news. According to ErosSTX, the production company is set to make an English-language remake of the French thriller, “My Son.” But there is some hope, as the cast and crew of the feature seem to point to a worthwhile retelling.
