Beabadoobee has spoken to NME in a new interview about embracing collaborations on her new album ‘Beatopia’.The Dirty Hit-signed artist released her second album, the follow-up to her 2020 debut ‘Fake It Flowers’, last month.The new record features collaborations with the likes of The 1975‘s Matty Healy, PinkPantheress and Bombay Bicycle Club‘s Jack Steadman (under his Mr Jukes moniker).Speaking to NME in this week’s Big Read about inviting other artists to work on ‘Beatopia’, Beabadoobee – real name Beatrice Kristi Laus – said: “At the beginning [of your career] you’re super anal, like, ‘No one fucking touch my music’. And then you’re like, ‘You know what? Collaborations are sick’.

Self Esteem joined Richard Hawley on stage in Sheffield last night (August 8) during the first night of the latter’s residency at The Leadmill – you can watch fan-shot footage of the moment below.Hawley is playing four gigs this week in support of the much-loved venue, which remains under the threat of closure from its new owners.The Sheffield artist previously said that the Leadmill was the city’s “Cavern, it’s our Haçienda”, telling the Yorkshire Post in April that Sheffield is “on the verge of cultural catastrophe” if the venue closes.“The thought of losing it for the city is too hideous to contemplate,” he added. “It would be very desolate without The Leadmill, it’s literally a beacon in the dark culturally and physically.”During last night’s Leadmill show, Hawley played a career-spanning set which included two covers with Self Esteem (AKA Rebecca Lucy Taylor).

The Libertines‘ drummer Gary Powell has recalled performing to “racist” Sex Pistols fans whom he claimed threw Nazi Swastika salutes at him.Powell, who has also drummed for Dirty Pretty Things with Libs bandmate Carl Barat, as well as The Specials, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the New York Dolls, told NME in a new interview that he was shocked that the Sex Pistols camp allegedly did nothing to condemn the abuse at the gig 20 years ago.When NME quizzed Powell in the latest Does Rock ‘N’ Roll Kill Braincells?! feature on which The Beatles song “angry Sex Pistols fans” sang during a Libertines set in support of the legendary punk band in 2002, Powell answered: “Was it ‘Get Back’? I don’t remember!”The drummer’s answer was incorrect, with NME telling him that the fans were in fact singing ‘Yellow Submarine’ due to the bandmembers wearing matching red tunics.Powell then responded: “All I remember was some Nazi-esque Sex Pistols fans giving me Swastika salutes whilst we were playing, and I lost it and wanted to kick off with those guys. Echo and The Bunnymen’s Ian McCulloch has sung at Happy Mondays’ Paul Ryder’s funeral.Ryder, who was the bassist of the Happy Mondays and brother of frontman Shaun, died last month at the age of 58.Posting the news on social media, the band wrote: “The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning. A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed.”Alan McGee, who was in attendance at the service, described it as an “amazing send off” and recalled how he spoke at the beginning of the funeral, which took place in Manchester yesterday (August 4).

Elbow and Easy Life have been announced as headliners for this year’s Glastonbury Pilton Party.Both acts will perform at the Worthy Farm bash, which will be held for the first time since 2019, on September 2. They also appeared on the Pyramid Stage during the summer.Every September, a few bands return to Worthy Farm for the annual bash, which is put on as a “thank you” fundraiser event for nearby residents and workers.The Velvet Hands and Inkara are also on this year’s bill.
