Willow Kayne has discussed her new single ‘Rat Race’, telling NME the track is a “diary entry tune”.Speaking backstage at All Points East festival, the Bristol-born singer-songwriter explained that the track, out today (August 22), is part of a new project.“This next project is about my experience in London, and in this industry as well,” she said. “‘Rat Race’ is about my perception on London and how everything is so fast, and you’ve got to keep up.

PJ Harvey has shared a haunting new cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Who By Fire’ – listen to it below.The song was recorded with composer Tim Phillips for the new Apple TV+ series, Bad Sisters.The first two episodes of Bad Sisters are available on Apple TV+ now, with new episodes debuting each Friday until October 14.In a press release, Harvey said of the cover: “It was a very enjoyable day spent recording the version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Who by Fire’ for Bad Sisters. I had spoken to Sharon Horgan in advance of the recording session, so I understood why she felt the song’s lyric was so perfect for the series, but also understood what nuances of Leonard’s performance she most loved, and therefore what to try and recapture but in my own way.“Tim Phillips and I worked together on my performance for the song. Danny Goffey has announced details of his third solo album ‘Bryan Moone’s DiscoPunk’ and an accompanying limited edition book. Check out the first single from the record ‘Everybody’s On Drugs’ below, alongside our chat with the Supergrass drummer and indie star.‘Bryan Moone’s DiscoPunk’ follows Goffey’s 2018 album ‘Schtick’ and was recorded after the end of the first coronavirus-enforced lockdown in 2020, with contributions from Goffey’s Supergrass bandmate Gaz Coombes, as well as Ed Harcourt and Louis Eliot.“Me and Simon [Byrt, producer], who I’ve worked with on my other two albums, we were really gagging for it,” Goffey said.

Iceage have announced they’ll release a new rarities collection titled ‘Shake the Feeling: Outtakes & Rarities 2015–2021’ next month.The collection, out September 23 via Mexican Summer, will contain 12 non-album cuts (songs frontman Elias Bender Rønnenfelt describes as “misfit children”) including covers of Bob Dylan‘s ‘I’ll Keep It With Mine’ and Abner Jay’s ‘My Mule’.To coincide with the announcement, the band have shared a new single, also titled ‘Shake the Feeling’. The song was recorded during sessions for the band’s 2018 album ‘Beyondless’, but left off the album for being too “happy go lucky”, according to Rønnenfelt. It arrives alongside a video directed by Alex Cantouris and filmed at Moth Club in London.

The National have shared further details of their new single, ‘Weird Goodbyes’, featuring Bon Iver.Pictures of posters advertising the new song began to circulate online, with the band later confirming their legitimacy by changing their cover photos on social media to include the same artwork.Now The National have taken to Instagram to provide more information to fans, as well as a release date.“Last spring, the band reconvened at Long Pond to begin writing and recording new music that we’ve been working on ever since,” the statement reads.“‘Weird Goodbyes’ featuring Bon Iver felt like the right track to share first and is one of a handful of new songs we’ve been performing on tour this summer. We’re so grateful to our friend Justin Vernon for joining us on this song.”The post also revealed that the single will be released worldwide at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm UK on Monday, August 22.

Oasis‘ third album, ‘Be Here Now’.The six-times platinum-selling record celebrates its 25th anniversary this week, with an updated version featuring silver-coloured double heavyweight LP, double picture disc and cassette, and remastered audio set for release tomorrow (August 19).Back in 1997, Spencer Jones loaned the 1972 Silver Shadow from Leicestershire-based Flying Spares for the album shoot. It was sold the following year at a music memorabilia auction for £1,200, but experts have no idea where the car went from there.

Peter Hook has said there should be a permanent memorial to Ian Curtis in Manchester following the removal of a mural to the late Joy Division musician.Earlier this week, a advertisement for Manchester rapper Aitch was placed over a much loved mural of Curtis in the city’s Northern Quarter. Aitch said he would “fix” the issue saying he had no idea that the advertisement was being placed over the mural.The mural, based on a photo of Curtis taken by Philippe Carly, was painted by Manchester street artist Akse P19.

Jake Bugg has announced a special 10th anniversary edition of his self-titled debut album.The Nottingham musician released his first LP, which featured such songs as ‘Lightning Bolt’, ‘Two Fingers’ and ‘Trouble Town’, on October 15, 2012.Bugg is now set to celebrate his debut album with the release of a special 10th anniversary edition of the record on October 14.‘Jake Bugg’ will be re-released on 2xLP black vinyl, limited edition 2xLP, gold vinyl and 3xCD formats, and can be pre-ordered here.“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since album one,” Bugg said of the anniversary. “Time has flown so fast so it’s been a real pleasure to go through the old unreleased tracks, videos and photographs and put this box set together.

Circa Waves have made a surprise return with their new single, ‘Hell On Earth’ – you can listen to it below.The song is said to signal “the start of a new era” for the Liverpool band, whose latest album ‘Sad Happy’ came out in early 2020. The track received its first play last night (August 17) on BBC Radio 1.“‘Hell On Earth’ is about the world moving so fast around you you’re struggling to keep up,” explained frontman Kieran Shudall of the stomping, energetic number in a statement.“Record stores closing, politicians lying more than ever, social anxiety at its highest level and that general feeling some days that everything is going wrong.”In the anthemic chorus, Shudall sings: “I think I’ve died and gone to hell/ And I don’t care/ I don’t care cos it was hell on earth.” Listen to the single here:An official music video for the single – directed by Circa Waves themselves – is due to premiere on YouTube at 7pm BST this evening (August 18).

The National‘s Bryce Dessner has spoken to NME about what to expect from the band’s new material, as well as looking ahead to their remaining summer shows.During their run of 2022 festival dates, the indie veterans have been playing a number of brand new songs. Suede have shared Autofiction, a new short film to accompany their forthcoming album of the same name – you can watch it below.The five-piece will release their new studio LP on September 16 via BMG, marking their first album release since 2018’s ‘The Blue Hour’.As the build-up to the arrival of ‘Autofiction’ continues, Suede have now shared an 18-minute film to accompany the record.Directed and written by Katie Lambert, the film stars Noah Granville and Hannah Higton as “two protagonists at a pivotal emotional crossroads” and features the Suede songs ‘She Still Leads Me On’ and ‘15 Again’.“The production explores the complexities of memory, the perceived truth, communication and anxiety in human relationships,” a press release about the Autofiction film adds. “Themes at the core of Suede’s new album ‘Autofiction’, which, as its title suggests, is one of Brett Anderson’s most personal records yet.”Writer/director Lambert said of the film: “Autofiction is about that moment in a relationship when it’s crunch time.

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has given his first interview in three years – and it’s all about sports.The indie icons returned to the road earlier this month for a European tour, marking their first gigs since 2019.Fans are expecting the band to return with their long-awaited new album later this year, but so far no new material has been played at the comeback gigs – and Turner’s first interview of 2022 revolves around his love of football and sport.Speaking to the French paper L’Equipe ahead of the band’s headline set at Rock En Seine festival in Paris next weekend (August 25-30), Turner spoke about growing up going to see Sheffield Wednesday play, and how he fell in love with their star player Chris Waddle.Discussing Wednesday and their fierce rivals, Sheffield United, Turner said: “You have to make a choice between the two clubs.”Of Waddle’s influence on him, Turner added: “When I was a kid, I had a shirt with his number on it. I loved the ease with which he made differences with the ball.

Chloe Moriondo has announced details of her second album, titled ‘Suckerpunch’, which will come out later this year.The new album follows the singer’s 2021 debut ‘Blood Bunny’, and will land on October 7 via Fueled By Ramen.Ahead of the album’s release, it is being previewed by a new single called ‘Fruity’. Discussing the track and album in a statement, Moriondo said: “‘Fruity’ and this album in general are going to be a slap in the fucking face!! Maya Hawke has shared the music video for her new single ‘Sweet Tooth’, the latest track to be taken from her upcoming album ‘Moss’.‘Moss’ will be the musician and actor’s second album, following 2020’s ‘Blush’, and will be released next month.The video for ‘Sweet Tooth’ follows Hawke as she takes a trip to the dentist and, after being anaesthetised by laughing gas, slips into a dream that sees her friends holding a memorial for her on the beach.
