God Of War Ragnarok: Valhalla has a challenge that is so tough that the development team didn’t even beat it before the game shipped.Mihir Sheth, game director of God of War Ragnarok‘s Valhalla update, posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing that “there is an endgame challenge in God Of War Ragnarok Valhalla that no one of the dev team has completed on the hardest difficulty ‘Show Me Mastery”.Sheth continued, stating “I am so, so curious to see how quickly players will humble us… as they often do… but maybe this time we’ve beaten them?”‘Show Me Mastery’ is a difficulty mode available in God Of War Ragnarok, and is the hardest difficulty available in the game.God Of War Ragnarok Valhalla was revealed during The Game Awards 2023 and launched earlier this week. The DLC is a free update to the base game and sees Kratos and Mimir travelling to find some closure on their adventure in the base game, with the gameplay style shifting from a traditional third-person action-adventure game to a roguelike.NME reviewed God Of War Ragnarok when it was released, with our writer calling the game a “blast”.“God Of War Ragnarok is a good game but never particularly surprising,” Jake Tucker wrote.“Shifting the focus onto Atreus’ story feels like a smart move and the universe painted here is as beautiful narratively as it is graphically, but some players may feel like they have ridden this ride before.”In other gaming news, a new Squid Game title has been announced by the Netflix Games division.

God Of War celebrate its 20th anniversary – and fans can look forward to a special vinyl boxset.Released by Laced Records, the 13-LP collection will feature 150 remastered tracks from across the God Of War franchise.The anniversary collection will include the complete soundtracks for 2005’s God Of War, 2007’s God Of War 2 and 2010’s God Of War 3 alongside the 2018 reboot. The music of celebrated sequel God Of War: Ragnarök will also be included, as will the soundtrack to the Valhalla expansion.A selection of music from God Of War: Ascension, Chains Of Olympus, Ghost Of Sparta and God Of War Ragnarök: Lofi Beats To Journal To will also be included in the mammoth boxset, which costs £250 and is available to pre-order now.This is the first time the soundtrack for the first three God Of War games will be available on vinyl and each entry in the Greek saga will be available as a limited-edition double LP set for £36 each.

God Of War game could take place in ancient Egypt, according to a new report.The original God Of War was released in 2005 for the PS2 and saw Spartan warrior Kratos become the titular god of war. The first three mainline games and a number of spin-offs saw Kratos battling against various ancient Greek gods before 2018’s God Of War introduced Norse mythology to the series.Ragnarok finished up the story, with free expansion Valhalla serving as an epilogue to Kratos’ story.However a new report from industry insider DanielRPK claims that Sony is currently casting “middle eastern” actors for an unknown AAA game that’s “likely to be the next God Of War game that explores ancient Egypt” (via The Game Post).It’s not known if Kratos or his son Atreus will return to the franchise, but the game would likely include Egyptian deities such as Osris, the judge of death, sun god Ra and Anhur, the Egyptian god of war.In a 2018 documentary, creative director Cory Barlog revealed that developers had toyed with the idea of setting the game in ancient Egypt before deciding on the Norse story.

God Of War franchise has criticised the direction that the newer games have gone in.Jaffe – who led 2005’s original God Of War title and 2007’s sequel – shared a video onto his YouTube channel, titled “God Of War – does it need to be so… personal?” last week and in it, shares his thoughts on the 2018 reboot and last year’s Ragnarok.Responding to comments that animation director Bruno Velazquez in the past about the franchise mirroring people’s growth from youth to adulthood, Jaffe said: “I don’t want these characters to grow. I don’t give a fuck what you’re going through at the studio.”“If you’re going to build a brand new IP, or you’re going to build a character into the God Of War lore, and that character is struggling or dealing with your problems that a lot of you at the studio have dealt with, that’s great.“But don’t take the character Kratos and go, ‘I’m older now and I’m really into family and I wanna tell stories about fathers and sons’.

God Of War Ragnarok DLC has been unveiled at this year’s The Game Awards – and it’s arriving next week.While at The Game Awards, Sony Santa Monica made the blockbuster announcement, revealing a new trailer for a Kratos-led DLC campaign, titled Valhalla. While little is known of the DLC’s plot, it will seemingly take place after the events of Ragnarok due to Atreus’ absence.Fans won’t need to wait long to jump back into the world of God Of War though, as the DLC goes live on PS5 and PS4 next week, on December 12.
