Sandra Bullock is STILL embarrassed for signing on to star in '97 flop Speed 2: Cruise Control
She became a household name after steering a bus filled with hostages and rigged with explosives by a deranged criminal to safety with the help of Keanu Reeves in the 1994 blockbuster Speed. But Sandra Bullock admitted she was still embarrassed to have made the decision to sign on to star in the '97 flop Speed 2: Cruise Control even more than two decades after the release of the film.During an interview with TooFab to promote her latest adventure-seeking movie, The Lost City, where she stars alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum, Sandy revealed she came to terms with the failed sequel to her stellar box office flick a long time ago. Full speed ahead: Sandra Bullock admitted she was still embarrassed to have made the decision to sign on to star in the '97 flop Speed 2: Cruise Control even more than two decades after the release of the filmThe actors were given the question: 'If you could, name a project that you maybe were once embarrassed about, or maybe jaded or cynical, but came around to once you saw how it was embraced by fans.' Bullock had no problem coming up with an answer, but noted very few people were in theater seats to see her on screen again as Annie, the spunky passenger who previously stepped up to help LAPD officer Jack (Reeves) drive a metro bus— and group of unknowing passengers— to safety while cruising through the streets of Los Angeles at a speed of at least 50 mph as to not set off explosives created by former bomb squad member Howard Payne (played by Dennis Hopper.)'You stumped me with the fans coming around later on,' Bullock jokingly replied about her movie, which also starred Jason Patric, Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison and Glenn Plummer.

Russian cruise missiles could reach Britain in an hour if NATO wades into Ukraine war
Russian cruise missiles could strike the UK within an hour if NATO intervenes directly in Ukraine, an expert warns.Kalibr class cruise missiles have a range of around 1,500 miles and can be launched from frigates and submarines.Experts have now said that if the missiles were used against the UK they would most likely be directed against infrastructure targets such as power stations and communications networks.Dr Sidharth Kaushal, a research fellow for sea power and missile defence at the Royal United Services Institute, described the missiles as a rough equivalent to the Tomahawk missiles used by the Royal Navy and United States. The missiles can reach twice the speed of sound before they reach their target, meaning that it's possible you would not hear one coming until after it hit.Dr Kaushal nonetheless said that the missiles would have to be used against particular targets as the Russian arsenal is "large but not limitless".He told inews: “If Nato did get involved in a war with Russia, but I don’t think it will, the first step would be conventional cruise missiles against Nato countries rather than going straight to the nuclear button, but that risk still remains.”He said it could also be difficult for ships to get within range of the UK due to actions by NATO forces, and added that any bombers trying to get to the UK would have to get past Scandinavia and "would expect interception".Dr Kaushal also said that although the UK does not have a missile defence system as sophisticated as countries such as Israel with its Iron Dome system, there is still a strong network of defences that could intercept incoming missiles and planes. These include the navy's type 45 destroyers, which have anti-air capabilities, and a system

Bald ambitious: Eagle-focused birder cruise shoves off in Connecticut
RiverQuest, a birder-focused cruise, is weighing anchor. The two-decade-old cruise run by the Connecticut River Museum — which documents New England’s longest river’s ecology and history, and houses a replica of Dutch Colonist and fur trader Adriaen Block’s ship, the Onrust — departs from Haddam, about 12 miles upriver from Essex.Naturalist Cathy Malin, a 10-year RiverQuest veteran, leads the sightseeing cruises, which take in the whole riverscape, from wildlife to geology, and from ecology to history. The special birding cruises run through late fall and culminate in the otherworldly spectacle of the swarming tree swallows.“Every cruise is different because the river is different with each season, and the scenery changes every day,” Malin told The Post, adding that in March, when it’s colder, “we usually have the whole river to ourselves.” Less boats equals less humans, less disturbance — and better chances of wildlife roaming close to the banks and eagles flying. The bald eagle was designated the United States’ national bird in 1782, but by the 20th century, they were on the brink of extinction. They were added to the endangered species list in 1978.No longer listed as endangered, Malin estimates there are now about eight nesting couples in this area, up from zero in the mid-20th century. These comeback kids signify the Connecticut River’s return to good health.
