Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has died aged 56, his family have confirmed in a statement.In a post on social media, Mackey’s wife Katie wrote: “After three months in hospital, fighting with all his strength and determination, we are shocked and devastated to have said goodbye my brilliant, beautiful husband, Steve Mackey”.“Steve died today, a loss which has left myself, his son Marley, parents Kath and Paul, sister Michelle and many friends all heartbroken”, she went on. “Steve was the most talented man I knew, an exceptional musician, producer, photographer and filmmaker”.“As in life, he was adored by everyone whose paths he crossed in the multiple creative disciplines he conquered”, she added. “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the NHS staff who worked tirelessly for Steve.

Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has died aged 56.The star joined the well-loved band in 1989, with them going on to release hit tracks such as Common People, Babies and Disco 2000.The group are reuniting later this year, but it was announced in October that Steve wasn't taking part. As well as working with Pulp, Steve worked alongside a series of other huge names including M.I.A, Florence and The Machine and Arcade Fire.The band’s official Twitter page confirmed the news of his death. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.” The post included a photo of Mackey walking through the Andes, and in the caption, the band wrote that they’d “very much like to think that he’s back in those mountains now, on the next stage of his adventure.”A post shared by Pulp (@welovepulp) Mackey’s wife Katie also issued a statement that said her husband’s death occurred after he had spent three months in hospital.

Black Sabbath is set to release a career-spanning autobiography later this year. Titled Into the Void: From Birth to Black Sabbath – and Beyond, the autobiography is due to hit bookshelves on June 6, and will trace the founding Black Sabbath bassist’s personal and professional life. The latter topic will include a recount of Black Sabbath’s multiple line-up changes and internal struggles, as well as the band’s “beginnings as a scrappy blues quartet”, according to an official synopsis.“A rollicking, effusive, and candid memoir by the heavy metal musician and founding member of Black Sabbath, covering his years as the band’s bassist and main lyricist through his later-career projects, and detailing how one of rock’s most influential bands formed and prevailed,” the synopsis adds.Into the Void is said to include appearances and mentions of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and The Who.

Trivium have announced a set of intimate UK shows this summer, playing venues and cities many of which they haven’t been to for more than fifteen years.“Since the first UK headline tour in 2005 we’d made it a point to do our best to get out of the big cities and play other ones that might get overlooked or skipped”, says bassist Paolo Gregoletto. “We looked at old Maiden and Motörhead posters and let that inspire the way we routed this one”.Support on the tour will come from Bleed From Within and Orbit Culture.

Metallica‘s former bassist Jason Newsted has said he is working on two new “heavy” projects.Newsted has been working with his bluegrass project, Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band, for several decades, and had recently started to incorporate more metal influences into the band.Now, however, he is firmly “stepping back into the heavy”, as he explained in an interview with Gator 98.7FM.  “So the last couple of weeks I’ve been auditioning guitar players for a heavy project. I’m back on bass and singing with a metal drummer — double bass — you know, getting loud again.
