Craig Murray, 62, was judged to have been in contempt of court over blogs he wrote during the trial of former first minister Alex Salmond.
His offending blog posts contained details which, if pieced together, could lead readers to identify women who made allegations against Salmond, who was acquitted of all 13 charges including sexual assault and attempted rape last year.
The former diplomat arrived at St Leonard’s police station in Edinburgh on August 1st to hand himself. However, there was confusion about whether Murray continued to be a member of the SNP.On July 26th, he tweeted: “I haven't actually left the SNP on joining Alba [Salmond’s new party], I am waiting for the SNP to kick me out.
