The Met Office has predicted almost six inches of snow in places today as part of an amber 'danger to life' weather warning.
Forecasters have also issued yellow weather alerts, predicting snow, flooding and 'blizzard conditions' for the rest of the week.
The north of England and Scotland are expected to see the worst of the weather. An amber danger to life warning has been issued for snow in parts of north Yorkshire, with meteorologists expecting some communities to be cut off.
