lions in exchange for thousands of pounds. The Safari Club International Convention is held every year in Las Vegas, and this year’s event is asking punters if they want to shoot the natural beast for a whopping £73,000.It claims to be the world's biggest trade for trophy killers who honour conservation of the animals, reports The Mirror. But critics say not much of the eye-watering sums of money actually go to protecting wildlife as it is allegedly swallowed up by corruption from African officials. At the event, millions are raised from sickening bidders who pay to kill defenceless animals.Around 25,000 hunters attend the convention, despite many of the poor animals listed being protected under international law. "Open area lion would be $100,000 for 14 days.

It's expensive," David Muller, owner of Daggaboy Hunting safari, told The Mirror. "The cost is dependent on the bait costs. If you leave four or five baits, the price goes up,” he said.“If you get lucky and get the lion early it can be $100,000, but it can go up to $120,000.

That's just for the hunt. Baiting rates would be 14 times $1,500." The grim convention attracts top names, including Donald Trump Jr who is headlining this year.

It is a marketplace for killers such as Walter Palmer, who famously shot Cecil the lion, and another American hunter Phil Smith, who assassinated a lion called Mopane.Stay up to date with all the latest news from the Daily Star by signing up for one of our free newsletters here.At least 31 big cats were horrifically up for sale at the exhibit – but the grim total could be much higher.Elephants, buffalos, hippos, crocodiles, blue wildebeests, zebras, warthogs, and baboons were all also put on offer to buyers.
