Police are hunting a driver who deliberately mowed down three sheep and burnt one of the helpless animals alive in a shocking attack.

The sheep that was torched initially survived its horrific ordeal and later had to be euthanised to put it out of its misery.

Lincolnshire Police shared distressing images of the livestock as they probe the incident over the weekend that an officer described as 'horrific' and 'cruel.' Police said the incident had caused distress to the farmer, whose sheep were targeted at Surfleet Marsh in Spalding.

The incident was believed to have taken place some time between Friday, July 17 and the following day at the farm in between Surfleet and Fosdyke, police said.
