Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie, revealed that their Eurasian elk, Cas, had been put to sleep after being found unresponsive one morning.
She leaves behind a young calf, which she gave birth to in mid-May. Keepers at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland run park wrote: "We are sad to announce the loss of our elk, Cas."Keepers found her unresponsive and after exhausting all alternatives, our vets advised she be put to sleep to prevent suffering."She will be missed by everyone here but we’re pleased to say her calf is doing well."Fans of the park flocked to post messages of support, with one writing: "Such very sad news - loved seeing the photos of her with her gorgeous calf.
