petrol supplies running low, there are hundreds of HGV driver jobs being advertised in Scotland. The crisis comes as the coronavirus pandemic cancelled and delayed driving tests, meaning fewer lorries could get on the road to make those essential deliveries.
Firms are now urgently seeking new drivers to make up for lost time. The steep rise in demand is being met with an increase in salary - some jobs pay as high as £50,000 and include a sign-on bonus, reports Glasgow Live.Drivers would be responsible for distributing food, fuel and other essentials throughout the country.
The Road Haulage Association (RHA)- the industry's trade body- says there is a shortage of around 100,000 drivers at the moment.
