Scotland's drug deaths have finally shown signs of coming down after years of seemingly endless increases. But numbers are still the worst in Europe and the reduction received a very cautious welcome from campaigners last night.
The fall comes after years of campaigning in the Daily Record for a properly funded response to the nation’s drugs crisis. In the quarter from July to September 2021 there were 285 suspected drug deaths, 13 per cent fewer than the previous quarter and 10 per cent less than in the same period the previous year.Campaigner Peter Krykant welcomed the reduction but said he expected the death figures to plateau – simply because so many people have already died.He added: “Any small reduction at a time like this is not a
