Dumbarton spotted the smoke filtering from the top-floor flat.Rushing up the stairs he managed to force his way in and called for a fire engine on his radio.He learned from the neighbours it was “Wee Eddie’s” flat and he hadn’t been seen all day but that wasn’t unusual as he worked odd hours as a security guard.The flat was empty as he made his way from room to room through the smoke and was about to leave and let the firemen do their job when he spotted an open trapdoor to the attic.There, on a blood-soaked mattress, lay the battered body of Eddie Cotogno.And on top of him and scattered around his bludgeoned head lay dozens of photographs of naked women.It’s likely the killer had used a hammer or similar instrument to beat his victim to.
