But despite the forward signing a new long-term contract to remain at the AJ Bell Stadium earlier this year, Watson made it one of his priorities to take Yates with him to the John Smith’s Stadium.And M.E.N.
Sport understands that the 25-year-old had threatened to return to Australia rather than report for pre-season training with his teammates in the new year.
In light of that and the substantial financial package negotiated with Huddersfield, the club has reluctantly allowed Yates to depart.
