fresh Saharan dust bomb is set to blanket parts of the UK later this week in what is proving to be 2022's strangest weather phenomenon.

According to aerosol forecasts from weather agency Copernicus, a sheet of dust - sometimes also referred to as 'blood rain' - will blow up through northern Africa this week and wind towards Western Europe.

It is expected to make landfall over the weekend and will hit some southern parts of the UK.Saharan dust is picked up by wind from the desert into the sky and carried up into the atmosphere.

As raindrops fall, they collect particles of dust on the way down. This leaves behind a layer of dust on the ground following rainfall. The last time the UK was blanketed in the dust was back in March when it left strange orange-purple rippling effects in the sky.
