It was just announced that Beanie Feldstein will be leaving the Broadway production of Funny Girl in September and her replacement will be named on a later date. Beanie is the first actress to originate the role in a Broadway production since Barbra Streisand opened the original staging in 1964.
Now, Beanie will be handing off the role to a new actress and we’re trying to figure out who might be next!
The logical choice right now is Julie Benko, who is currently serving as Beanie‘s standby and has been performing the role for the past week during her COVID-19 absence.
There’s also Lea Michele, who was long-rumored to lead a Broadway production of Funny Girl after performing many of the songs on Glee. Click inside to see some of our other choices and to vote in our poll… Lauren Ambrose was once rumored to be up for the role of Fanny Brice in a production that was going to happen a few years ago, so we’ve added her to the poll. Shoshana Bean, who was just nominated for a Tony Award this past weekend, has previously performed in a regional production of Funny Girl and knocked the role out of the park.
