Reusing a mask is less effective than not having a face covering at all, new study says

Wearing a used mask could be less effective against Covid-19 than not having any face covering at all, a new study has claimed.

Researchers looking at the three-layer pleated surgical face masks, sometimes worn by healthcare professionals, found a dramatic reduction in how much particles were filtered out with multiple use.

The masks filtered out nearly three-quarters of particles. But, when worn again this was reduced to one-quarter of particles the study claimed.

This is because masks change the way air flows around your face, protecting you from catching, or spreading the virus. But multiple use of the masks deform the shape and limit their utility.
