Rebekah Vardy to pay Coleen Rooney around £1.5m in legal costs following Wagatha trial

Rebekah Vardy has to pay Coleen Rooney up to £1.5m in legal costs after she lost their Wagatha Christie case.The star has been ordered to pay 90% of Coleen's legal costs, starting with a payment of £800,000 by next month.The estimated remaining costs could take the total sum up to an eye-watering £1.6m.READ MORE: Man Utd fans taunt Jamie Vardy with Rebekah chant before singing 'Rooney, Rooney'It comes after the pair's high-profile legal battle earlier this year.The case, which gripped the nation, started after Coleen posted a message on Instagram accusing Rebakah Vardy's Instagram account of leaking stories about her to the press, which Rebekah insisted wasn't true.Rebekah, who is married to footy ace Jamie Vardy, took action for libel but lost when a judge decided that Coleen's post was "substantially true".The 40-year-old has now been told by a judge that she must pay 90% of Coleen's costs for the trial, which concluded after nine days in May this year.

In a judgment released today, Mrs Justice Steyn said the legal bill - which Coleen is said to not have finalised with the court - was previously estimated by Coleen's lawyer Paul Lunt at £1,667,860.48.The judgment also revealed that Coleen - who has four sons with footballer Wayne - wanted 100% of her costs paid and Rebekah wanted to pay 80% as the judge had found in her favour for certain matters.Coleen's lawyer, Paul Lunt at Brabners, said in a statement to The Mirror: "The High Court has today decided that Rebekah Vardy must pay Coleen Rooney's legal costs on an indemnity basis - the highest basis that the Court could order.
