Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Prince Philip’s funeral at St George’s Chapel on April 17 will be held in accordance with his wishes, Buckingham Palace said.It will be a ceremonial funeral, not a state funeral, of minimal fuss which will be attended by 30 of his closest family and friends due to Covid. The Duke of Edinburgh will be taken from Windsor Castle in the back of a Land Rover he helped design for the army, to his resting place at St George’s Chapel.
Several senior members of the Royal Family, including Prince Charles and likely Prince William, will walk behind the coffin, until its approach at the Chapel, where Philip will be lowered into the Royal Vault.
