stolen from a pub.And Colonel Porter's Emporium in Newcastle has launched an appeal to get the bear – which wears a top hat with a feather in it – back home as soon as possible. The giant animal was stolen on Friday, and staff have been checking CCTV footage to try to find the two men who were seeing carrying the bear, known as Herbert, towards the nearby Quayside.Initially Chronicle Live reported that the bar said that the bear can be returned “with no questions asked” and without police involvement, if the two men choose to make right the wrong. But now the tone of the appeal has turned to anger.Posting on Facebook, via the nearby Prohibition Cabaret Bar's page, a spokesman for the bar said: “Bit of an odd one but very important!“Has anyone seen a real black taxidermy bear on or around the Quayside area this weekend?“A group of men have stolen him from our venue at 10pm on Saturday 12th - CCTV shows they wrap him in a coat and head out and down towards Quayside past Livello and The Akenside Traders Newcastle and out of sight.“If anyone has any info at all please get in touch as he’s actually a really integral part of our decor and we want him back and the absolute reprobates who took him to be held accountable!"The bear was named in honour of Colonel James Herbert Porter, the man who created Newcastle Brown Ale, who the bar is also named after.Bar staff described the bear as "a stalwart at the pub since it opened its doors and a great talking point".Anyone with information is being told to call 0191 261 7600.For more of the latest news from Daily Star, make sure you sign up for one of our newsletters here..
