Police forces have threatened to hand out £200 coronavirus fines to people sledging or having snowball fights - drawing criticism from Twitter users.
As 1-6ins of snow blanketed cities and towns up and down the UK at the weekend, large crowds emerged from tough Covid-19 lockdowns to take advantage of the wintry conditions.
But police in London, Surrey and Wiltshire warned people not to breach lockdown rules while playing in the snow, even with members of their own household, telling them: "Covid regulations still apply." Officers in Swindon dispersed about 200 people who were sledging at Coate Water Country Park on Sunday, and Surrey Police handed out £200 fines to two carloads of men "out looking at the snow".
