Police launch probe into death of mum 'given paracetamol overdose by NHS staff'

Police have launched an investigation into claims a mum-of-two was given an accidental paracetamol overdose by NHS staff at a hospital.

Laura Higginson, 30, died at The Whiston Hospital in Merseyside after going in to be treated for suspected pneumonia. Her husband Antony claims he only found out about the alleged blunder months after his wife's death in April 2017 when he requested the post-mortem report.

He received a copy from his GP in June 2017 and contacted lawyers and police over what he claimed was a "cover-up". Although Laura's death was reported to the local coroner at the time, no inquest was held.
