The Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines may help to prevent future pandemics by protecting us from other viruses that spread from animals. "Exciting" new research suggests the vaccines work not just against Sars-CoV-2, but other coronaviruses as well – and could stop emerging pandemics in their tracks.
Scientists at North Carolina's Duke University in the US tested mRNA vaccines similar to the approved Covid jabs on monkeys, and found the jabs induced antibodies that could guard against other coronaviruses, the Telegraph reports.
The research, published this week in Nature, also says the vaccines may already offer some protection against viruses like MERS, as well as threats that have not yet been discovered.
