Peter Wright missed six match darts in the decisive leg as Damon Heta clinched his maiden European Tour title in dramatic fashion.The Australian defeated the world number one 8-7 in an epic Gibraltar Darts Trophy final, which saw both players endure double trouble.

Snakebite produced some superb darts to lead 3-0, only for Heta to take out a 167 finish on his way to a 7-5 lead. Wright took the next two to take the final to a sudden-death leg, but after being first to a finish he spurned a host of championship darts across three visits.After five match darts, he needed double five, only to drop short of the outer ring.

Wright sportingly praised Heta on his first European Tour success and tipped the Aussie to go from strength to strength."Hats off to Damo," said Wright, who had produced some impressive darts on the way to the final. "I didn't expect to miss my doubles, and I didn't expect him to miss but hopefully it was entertainment!"It was his day today.
