Perth-based Stagecoach's £470m merger with National Express raises fears over company’s Fair City headquarters

The £470 million takeover of Perth -based Stagecoach by rivals National Express has sparked fears locally over the future of its Fair City headquarters.

The all-share deal, first mooted in September, will bring together the country’s biggest bus and coach operators, forging a £1.9 billion transport operating group.The proposed merger is expected to be completed in late 2022, meaning National Express shareholders will own approximately 75 per cent of the group, but is subject to shareholder approval.The new joint national provider will run 40,000 vehicles with a workforce of approximately 70,000 people and expects to achieve annual cost savings of £45m.As a result of the landmark deal, however, the group will be headquartered at National
