Tessa Thompson (Westworld) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Super Pumped) are are attached to star in the sci-fi thriller Ash, which the Grammy-winning musician and filmmaker Flying Lotus — otherwise known as Steven Ellison — will direct as his sophomore feature, as we first reported in January. Neill Blomkamp (District 9) has since then come aboard to exec produce the pic, which its financier XYZ Films will rep for worldwide sales at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.

‘Ash’ First Look: Sci-Fi Horror From Flying Lotus Sets 2025 Theatrical Release Date (EXCLUSIVE)

Jack Dunn RLJE Films and Shudder have unveiled the first teaser poster for their new sci-fi horror “Ash.” The second feature from Grammy-winner Steven Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, is set for a wide theatrical release on March 21, 2025. The official synopsis reads: “On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (Eiza González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.” Additional cast members include Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, Ellison and Andrew B.

Flying Lotus has confirmed the cast for his new sci-fi thriller Ash, which will feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tessa Thompson in leading roles.The new film from the electronic producer – real name Steven Ellison – was announced back in January and follows his 2017 directorial debut Kuso. It’s based on an original screenplay from Jonni Remmler.

Manori Ravindran International Editor Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will headline the sci-fi thriller “Ash,” directed by Flying Lotus. Thompson plays a space station worker who wakes up on a distant planet to find her colleagues viciously killed, and then forced to work together with the man (Gordon-Levitt) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, the rescuer begins to wonder how innocent she really is. Executive produced by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”), “Ash” is based on an original screenplay written by Jonni Remmler. XYZ Films and GFC Films will produce, with Echo Lake also onboard as an executive producer. XYZ Films is financing and handling worldwide sales at next week’s Toronto International Film Festival.
