It’s alleged that Kurtaj also attacked BT and EE, and used Rockstar’s own Slack channel to threaten to release Grand Theft Auto 6‘s source code.While Kurtaj is suspected of acting alone for the Rockstar, Uber and Revolut hacks, a 17-year-old who cannot be named is thought to have been involved in the blackmailing of BT and EE.Prosecutors claimed that both were “key players” in Lapsus$, and attempted to blackmail BT and EE for $4million (£3million).

William Earl Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has launched Absurd Ventures, which aims to produce video games, TV, film and a wide range of multiplatform content. Absurd Ventures will focus on creating characters and worlds that can be expressed in many different forms. In addition to video games, live-action and animation, Absurd Ventures also has its eye on books, graphic novels and podcasts. “We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can,” Houser said. The company, which has a handful of employees, is based in Santa Monica. Financing and investment partners will be unveiled at a later time, said a spokesman for Houser. Absurd Ventures’ website and social media accounts went live today.

Speaking exclusively to NME, Dan Smith, frontman of Bastille has revealed that he wants to compose the soundtrack to Red Dead Redemption 3.When asked which game series he’d most like to create an upcoming soundtrack for, the Bastille founder, singer and songwriter said, “I’d make a load of cowboy music for Red Dead Redemption.”“I want to make an epic score for Red Dead Redemption 3,” he continued, “I think that’d be really fun – getting to knock about on a horse in the Wild West with some great music banging in the background.”Bastille fans may be waiting a while for their Western dreams to become a reality, however, as Rockstar Games’ follow-up to 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t yet confirmed.

Rockstar has issued copyright strikes to Mike Dailly, the creator of Grand Theft Auto (GTA), over YouTube videos of a prototype for the first game in the series.Taking to Twitter yesterday (August 21), Dailly accused Rockstar of “issuing copyright strikes to any GTA video they can find,” including his own prototype videos. “So now they’re trying to block all release of anyone’s work on a game – and any old development footage,” added Dailly.In a separate post, Dailly confirmed that he has “now removed all GTA dev stuff” from his YouTube channel. “Only direct examples of my own work are left – work that was never used in GTA, but ‘inspired’ parts of its evolution,” said Dailly.

Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) will be set in a fictionalised version of Miami, and players will follow a female protagonist.In an article published today (July 27), Bloomberg has claimed that GTA 6 will feature the series’ first female character – a Latina who will be one of two leading characters. Speaking to Bloomberg, sources familiar with the project say that the pair of characters are influenced by Bonnie and Clyde.Bloomberg‘s report also claims that GTA 6 will be set in a fictionalised Miami and its neighbouring areas, though the game was initially designed to feature “large swaths of North and South America.”It also states that due to developer Rockstar‘s ongoing efforts to tackle crunch culture within its projects – along with the project’s scale and issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – GTA 6 is taking longer to create. To get it released earlier, Rockstar is reportedly going to update the game with new missions and cities regularly post-launch.Because of GTA 6‘s slow production, developers interviewed by Bloomberg have claimed that the game is “at least” two years away from launching.Bloomberg has also reported that besides trying to move away from crunch, Rockstar also wants to avoid using Grand Theft Auto‘s satirical humour to “punch down” on marginalized groups.

Build A Rocket Boy, the studio founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, has hired a number of high profile industry veterans.The new hires are former Codemasters and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe vice president Mick Hocking, former 2K VP of publishing Murray Pannell and former SVP of publishing at NCSoft Randall Price (via VGC).Hocking is now chief development officer, with Pannell taking up SVP of global marketing and Price now chief publishing officer.Regarding the new hires, Benzies said: “Since 2016, Build A Rocket Boy’s team has been quietly growing and today we’re delighted to publicly welcome Mick, Murray and Randall to the studio.“Each of them brings a huge amount of experience, knowledge and passion to Build A Rocket Boy as we continue development on Everywhere, and we’re looking forward to having more to announce from the team later in 2022” (via GamesIndustry.biz).Build A Rocket Boy appears to be stacking up its development talent for its first project, Everywhere, which is set to be a “real-life Ready Player One” multiplayer title.

Visual Concepts, the studio behind the NBA 2K games as well as WWE 2K titles, has revealed it’s making an AAA “open world driving game”.Following an update to their Twitter bio that now promises “a new AAA game that will blow your mind” Visual Concepts is also directing people to their recruitment page.One of the many listings is for a producer at Visual Concepts’ Foothill Ranch studio, with the company “looking for a seasoned producer to join our development efforts on an unannounced, open world driving game with a major licence.“This AAA title is targeted at multiple platforms.
