Alex Ritman Thomas Benski, the former Pulse Films boss who recently unveiled Carousel Studios with Omar Sy and Louis Letterier, has launched talent and IP banner Lumina. Based in London, New York, Paris and Los Angeles, the new venture claims to have been “built to support and grow companies in the modern media and consumer landscape where talent, IP and brand are the multipliers,” and comes with a first-round of funding in the “mid-eight figures.” Lumina says it will focus on talent-driven studios, production, kids and family content, plus consumer brands.

Curzon CEO Philip Knatchbull Exits After 17 Years at U.K. Arthouse Distributor

Manori Ravindran Executive Editor of International Curzon CEO Philip Knatchbull is set to exit Curzon after 17 years. He will remain in the role until November while a new CEO is appointed. Knatchbull’s departure comes four years after Cohen Media Group acquired Curzon in later 2019. Knatchbull became CEO of what is now Curzon when he completed the acquisition of Curzon Cinemas and film distributor Artificial Eye in 2006. During this period, the company has grown with Curzon Cinemas, Curzon Film and Curzon Home Cinema all unified under the Curzon brand. After starting from an initial base of two venues, Curzon’s cinema portfolio has grown to 20 cinemas across London and the U.K.

Cohen Media Group Buys HanWay Films in Major Acquisition

Manori Ravindran International Editor Cohen Media Group has acquired producer Jeremy Thomas’ prestigious international sales company HanWay Films in a major deal. Cohen Media Group owns Landmark Theatres in the U.S. and British distributor-exhibitor Curzon. HanWay Films was founded by “The Last Emperor” producer Thomas and is co-owned with his partner Peter Watson. Under the deal, HanWay Films will continue to be branded as an independent label selling theatrical titles to its distribution partners worldwide. It’s still unclear how much an exclusive tie-in there will be to parent company-owned Curzon.
