Monty Don, 70, has spoken out on Twitter after “threats” have been made to “tear down the BBC”.The Gardeners’ World presenter has said that although people criticise the public broadcaster, he will continue to “defend” it, as he has a “vested interest” in it.Monty shared an article from The Guardian that said despite “threats” to tear it down, the BBC is “vital” in relaying accurate information during a time of “chaos”.Alongside the post, Monty typed: “I have a vested interest.“But I have worked a lot for ITV and Ch 4 [Channel 4] too and know that the BBC is like family: we may criticise it bitterly but should defend it to the very end.

More recently, Monty shared his concerns on the matter in his Gardeners’ World column.He urged people to stop buying mass-produced plants grown in peat.“If you don't care about this you are sticking your head in the sand, not least because it will affect the quality of life for your children and grandchildren.“For gardeners, this means we have to consume less and think more about the connections... never buy peat in a potting compost.“And don't buy plants that are grown in peat.
