First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has given a health update two months after having a major operation amid his bowel cancer battle.The 47-year-old revealed he's "doing well" after having the tumour removed back in April.Merlin was diagnosed with bowel cancer in September last year after suffering from pain in his stomach for three months beforehand.He initially thought the pain was caused by a car accident that happened when he was 20.However, after further investigation, the doctors discovered a 4.5cm Stage three tumour.In April Merlin had a major operation to get the tumour removed and has since said he's doing well, reports The Sun.He also praised the NHS for saving his life and said his First Date co-stars, such as Fred Siriex and Cici Coleman, are "like family".Focusing on his health going forward, the barman has teamed up with Harrogate Spring Water and has helped launch Royal Ascot's first ever reduced and no alcohol bar.The bar is part of an initiative which will encourage mindful drinking with Love Island star and UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador Dr Alex George also involved.The TV star will be creating his exclusive non-alcohol cocktail, called the "Jubilee Spritz", for people going to Royal Ascot to enjoy at the bar.In the drink, he's mixed Harrogate Sparkling Water with touches of lavender combined with aromatic CleanCo G 0% botanical spirit.The mocktail is then complemented with a touch of fresh lemon juice for a refreshing taste for racegoers to enjoy.Speaking about working with Harrogate Spring Water and their first-ever reduced and no alcohol bar at Royal Ascot, he said mindful drinking makes "a lot of sense".Merlin commented: "I'm glad to see someone like Harrogate Spring Water is really taking this on

Millions of adults are cutting out alcohol to save money and be healthy – inspired by the younger “Generation Sensible” who booze less.A study of 2,000 Brits found 38% are mindful when it comes to drinking, and a quarter have consciously cut down their intake in the past year.Health is the top reason for this new behaviour (32%), while 15% wanted to prevent waking up with gaps in their memory.A quarter cut back to avoid a hangover, and 14% felt being more mindful with their drinking would help them be fully present at events.But three in ten believe younger generations are leading the way when it comes to mindful drinking.The study was commissioned by Harrogate Spring Water, which has teamed up with Dr Alex George and TV celebrity bartender Merlin Griffiths, to launch Royal Ascot’s first low- and no-alcohol bar.Richard Hall, the brand’s managing director, said: “Our survey clearly shows how adults really are being more mindful about their alcohol intake post-lockdown, as they now focus on creating memories from their experiences.”Dr Alex George said: “Adopting a mindful approach with drinking is such a key way for us to look after ourselves, and also make the most of our experiences.“I find it so interesting that a sixth of those polled said not being fully present at an event in the past from drinking too much alcohol, had influenced them to now be more mindful with their intake.“With 26% of people noticing that by cutting down they have a better memory of their experiences, you don’t need much more of an incentive to give it a try.“I can’t wait for racegoers to come try out Merlin’s delicious mocktail and have the opportunity to drink mindfully throughout their day.”The study also found over a fifth (22%) have attended

'Get my s**t together' First Dates' Merlin Griffiths set to have 'robotic' cancer surgery
Channel 4’s series First Dates, has shared an update on his health battle.The star was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and has now opened up on his latest surgery.Back in September 2021, Merlin shared the news that a tumour was found.He was diagnosed with stage three cancer and was given a prognosis that he was unlikely to live beyond five years.The 46-year-old publicly shared the news as he detailed his plans to battle his cancer.Over the past few months, the star has been updating his fans on his cancer journey.Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Merlin explained how he has a new surgery booked to his 42,000 followers.He wrote: “Operation scheduled. 3 weeks to get my s**t together.“Robotic surgery, welcome to the future!”The surgery in question sees doctors use a robotic system to help with keyhole surgery, according to Cancer Research UK.They explain this allows the surgeon to sit slightly away as they watch the operation on a magnified screen.The machine has four arms, with one holding the camera, and the others holding the instruments needed for the surgery.These arms are controlled by the surgeon monitoring the operation.Following on from the update, Merlin was inundated with supportive messages from fans.Austin Ventour wrote: “Sending unlimited love Merlin.
