SPOILER ALERT: This article contains major spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, Episode 3, “Connor’s Wedding.“Fans are still reeling over Sunday night’s emotionally shocking episode of “Succession.” It was a moment many fans expected to come at some point in the season — but not as soon as it did.Logan Roy is dead.The episode, written by creator Jesse Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod, started off centered around Connor Roy’s (Alan Ruck) wedding with girlfriend Willa (Justine Lupe), but quickly took a turn when Logan Roy (Brian Cox) suddenly collapsed on board his private jet — leaving the Roy siblings grieving over their father’s unexpected death at a wedding.In a highly emotional scene, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew MacFadyen) called Shiv (Sarah Snook), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) from the plane to let them speak to their dad in case he could still hear them, with all of the children grieving and processing in their own ways.Mylod revealed in the behind-the-scenes look after the episode that the stunning sequence was filmed in one almost 30-minute continuous take.But as the kids deal with the death of their patriarch, the Waystar RoyCo team jumps into crisis mode, figuring out what kind of statement to release that will keep the markets happy and not negatively impact their impending deals.The show notably did not have a dramatic death scene. Viewers don’t get to see the media mogul die on-screen — just doctors doing chest compressions on a body that was most likely already dead and the aftermath of grief.It turns out, Cox, 76, wasn’t even there for the death.

The new trailer teases the Roy kids’ final battle against their father Logan (Brian Cox), who outmaneuvered them — with some sneaky help from Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) — from stopping the Waystar Royco deal with GoJo in the Season 3 finale. Here’s the official logline: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

That number is up there with recent comps such as Barbarian, which did $850K on its Thursday night before a $10.5M opening, and The Northman, another Anya Taylor-Joy movie, which posted $1.35M before a $12.2M start.

A very vibrant runway leading into Thanksgiving for sure for movie theaters as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is headed for a second weekend down around -60% for $70M-$72M. Through five days, the Ryan Coogler-directed Disney and Marvel Studios sequel has amassed $204.8M with Tuesday earning $12.4M, the third best Tuesday of November after Frozen 2 ($20.8M, Nov. 26, 2019) and Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($15.96M, Nov. 26, 2013).

As part of a sizzle reel for upcoming HBO/HBO Max series released Monday, a clearly excited Logan Roy is giving an effusive rallying cry to employees at Waystar Royco on the eve of the impending sale of the media company to tech CEO Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård).

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Hong Chau has joined the cast of the anticipated new film from “The Favourite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos. Chau, who has been prolific in recent years, joins a stacked ensemble featuring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Plot details are (frustratingly) under wraps from the Greek master of subversion, who has also given us “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” Lanthimos directs from a script he wrote with Efthimis Filippou (reuniting after both “Lobster” and “Sacred Deer”). Searchlight Pictures is financing and distributing the project with Element Pictures and Film4. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element, Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos are producing. Principal photography begins this month in Chau’s native New Orleans.

K.J. Yossman “Succession” showrunner Jesse Armstrong made a dig at the U.K.’s King Charles III during his Emmys acceptance speech on Monday night. Taking to the stage along with the show’s execs and castmembers, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun, to accept the Emmy for outstanding drama series, Armstrong said, “Big week for successions. New king in the U.K., this for us.” Armstrong, who is British, then said: “Evidently a little bit more voting in our winning than Prince Charles,” prompting gasps from the audience and some of his team on stage.

The best of the 2021-2022 TV season has been revealed, first during the 74th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were handed on Sept. 3 and 4, before being followed by the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by Kenan Thompson on Sept. 12.
