“GMA3” has found its new co-anchors.

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor ABC News is betting on a new duo to keep shining daylight at “GMA3.” Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan will officially take over as co-anchors of the program, a news-and-lifestyle hour in the early afternoon that is seen as an extension of the Disney network’s flagship “Good Morning America.” They will join Dr. Jen Ashton. Meanwhile, Gio Benitez has been assigned to the team at the weekend version of “GMA.” Staffers at ABC News were informed of the decision Thursday morning by Kim Godwin, president of the division. “I know these programs – and our viewers at home – will be well-served by all of their collective talents,” said Godwin in a memo.

Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan will be the new co-anchors of GMA3: What You Need to Know, which has been without permanent hosts since the exit of Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.

According to ABC News, “Pretty Baby” ranks No. 1 in total hours streamed in its first week compared to all previous ABC News premieres on the streamer. Specific viewership data was not provided. Described as a “galvanizing look at actor, model and icon Brooke Shields as she transforms from a sexualized young girl to a woman discovering her power,” the two-part doc debuted April 3 on Hulu, following its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. “Holding a mirror up to a society that objectifies women and girls, her story shows the perils and triumphs of gaining agency in a hostile world.”

ABC News underwent a round of staff reductions on Thursday, with about 50 positions impacted as part of parent Walt Disney Co.’s companywide cuts.

Among the senior executives leaving the Disney news unit are Wendy Fisher, the senior vice president of newsgathering who joined the organization in 1989 as a desk assistant; Galen Gordon, senior vice president of talent strategy and development; Mary Noonan, vice president of talent strategy and development; and Alison Rudnick, a media industry veteran who joined ABC News from CNN in 2021 to represent ABC News President Kim Godwin as vice president of corporate communications. Others who are leaving include Chris Vlasto, a veteran senior executive producer who led ABC News’ investigative unit; Heather Riley, an executive editorial producer who has long been seen as a trusted lieutenant of anchor George Stephanopoulos; and David Herndon, ABC News’ Los Angeles bureau chief who has been with ABC News since joining as a producer in 1999.

Nationally syndicated daytime talker Tamron Hall has been renewed for Season 5 with leading broadcast groups including Hearst, Scripps, Nexstar, Cox and Gray, among others. The groups join the ABC Owned Television Stations, which previously announced the two-year renewal of Tamron Hall through the 2023-2024 season.
