In an email blast announcing several new summer shows, The Smile revealed to their fans that they’ve been in the studio for nearly two months, ostensibly working on their second LP. “More North American tour dates for when we are let out of the studio,” the trio of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner wrote in the subject line, later adding, “we’re deep in recording, week 7.” Stereogum first reported the news.

The Smile have confirmed that they have been working on their second album.The supergroup – made up of Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons Of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner – told fans the news at the end of an email newsletter that was announcing additional North American tour dates. “We’re deep in recording, week 7,” The Smile wrote.

Radiohead‘s drummer Philip Selway has said that the band will release new material “of some sort” in the “next couple of years”.In January, Selway said that he and his bandmates would be meeting up early this year to start putting things in motion. “We’re going to get together at the start of [2023], and I’m sure we’re going to start looking at other ideas for what comes next,” he said.Now, the drummer has told Prog Magazine [via MusicNews]: “We’re always talking about stuff.

The Smile and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner has announced a new solo album, titled ‘Voices of Bishara’, that will arrive on November 4 on Brownswood, Nonesuch and International Anthem. PJ Harvey has shared an update on the recording of her next studio album.In a new interview with Rolling Stone to discuss her new narrative poem novel Orlam, Harvey revealed that her upcoming album “took a long time to write to get right, but at least I feel very happy with it”.While it is currently unclear if the record has been finished, she shared with Rolling Stone that she is “very pleased with it” and that it is scheduled to release sometime in the summer next year.Talks of Harvey working on a new musical project first began in early February when the musician shared images of herself recording in a studio. The three images showed Harvey playing a guitar, fiddling with some guitar pedals, and sitting in front of a mic stand.Elsewhere in the interview, Harvey said she has recently been inspired by film soundtracks composed by the likes of Jonny Greenwood, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Ryuichi Sakamoto.When she’s not listening to film scores, Harvey has been exploring “Thom Yorke’s solo projects, but also his work with The Smile“.

Kelly Clarkson dived deep into Radiohead‘s catalogue for her latest Kellyoke cover: the ‘OK Computer’ cut ‘Exit Music (For A Film)’.Clarkson’s customary opening for The Kelly Clarkson Show has seen her previously cover Radiohead’s ‘Karma Police’, but for this edition of Kellyoke she picked a lesser-known ‘OK Computer’ track that was never released as a single.Clarkson’s classic rock take take demonstrates her vocal power – watch her cover Radiohead’s ‘Exit Music (For A Film)’ below.Clarkson is also reportedly working on a “haunting” new version of the 1995 single ‘9 To 5’ with Dolly Parton.
