The Smile have released their Paul Thomas Anderson-directed music video for ‘Friend Of A Friend’ – watch it below.The Smile have dropped their second album ‘Wall Of Eyes‘ today, and to celebrate, they’ve released a video of the trio performing to their toughest crowd yet: a room full of kids.With the lyrics based on pandemic-era videos of Italians singing to each other on their balconies, Thom Yorke begins with a sprightly bass line and some fairly wholesome lyrics: “I can go anywhere that I want / I just gotta turn myself inside out and back to front”. But Anderson’s camera captures the sprogs looking rather unimpressed.

Paul Thomas Anderson has reportedly worked with Radiohead spin-off The Smile on a mysterious new project.The director has worked with Radiohead previously, including on the direction of their ‘Moon Shaped Pool’ video ‘Daydreaming‘ while guitarist Jonny Greenwood has scored for Anderson’s films in the past including Liquorice Pizza, There Will Be Blood and The Master.Eagle-eyed fans on social media spotted that posters for a project have appeared at London’s Prince Charles Cinema linking Anderson and The Smile, who are made up of Thom Yoke, Greenwood and Tom Skinner.The cinema themselves tweeted the image with a side-eye caption earlier today and it features The Smile on a poster with a new project titled Wall Of Eyes.

The Smile and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner has announced a new solo album, titled ‘Voices of Bishara’, that will arrive on November 4 on Brownswood, Nonesuch and International Anthem. The Smile have announced their first-ever tour of North America for November and December 2022, in support of their debut album ‘A Light For Attracting Attention’.The band, which features Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood, will begin their debut tour across the continent in Providence, Rhode Island. The tour will then take them across the US and Canada, including two New York dates at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre and the city’s Hammerstein Ballroom.A pre-sale for the tour will begin this Thursday (June 16) from 10am local time, with the general sale following the next day at the same local time.

The Smile have announced their debut album, ‘A Light For Attracting Attention’, alongside the release of a brand new track called ‘Free In The Knowledge’.The band – comprising Thom Yorke, his Radiohead bandmate Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner – formed last year and have been sharing sporadic teasers of a debut album since.They’ve so far released ‘You Will Never Work In Television Again’, ‘The Smoke’,  ‘Skrting On The Surface’, and earlier this month they shared ‘Pana-vision’, a track taken from the Peaky Blinders soundtrack.Today (April 20), The Smile have confirmed the release of their much anticipated debut LP, ‘A Light For Attracting Attention’, which will arrive May 13 via XL Recordings.Produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich and mastered by Bob Ludwig, the 13-track album will feature strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra and a full brass section of contemporary UK jazz players including Byron Wallen, Theon and Nathaniel Cross, Chelsea Carmichael, Robert Stillman and Jason Yarde.The trio have also shared the latest preview of the album, ‘Free In The Knowledge’. Radiohead side-project The Smile have shared their third new single of the year, an eerie cut titled ‘Pana-vision’.The trio – comprising Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner – shared the new song over the weekend. It’s built around haunting instrumentals, such as piano, strings and brass, and the ghostly refrain “like a newborn child“.The single arrived alongside an accompanying music video with equally eerie graphics, courtesy of animator Sabrina Nichols and artist Stanley Donwood.

Radiohead side project The Smile have confirmed details of a ticket ballot for fans from around the world for their upcoming London shows at Magazine.The group – comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, plus Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner – announced the three live shows earlier this month (January 5), due to take place across January 29 and January 30.The trio said in a press release: “We have been overwhelmed with how quickly the three shows on 29th & 30th sold out. Thank you so much for the response.“We wanted to try to make this a global audience in the venue as well as online, so we’ve held back some venue tickets for sale – a pair for every country in the world across the three shows.
