At Göteborg’s TV Drama Vision and Nordic Film Market, she and her sales team will showcase high profile series including “Pressure Point” starring David Dencik, the Erik Poppe-helmed “Quisling,” “Heajastallan – A Sámi’s Wedding,” the competed features “Stranger” and “Second Victims,” and works in progress “The Dance Club” by “Love & Anarchy”’s Lisa Langseth, Danish/Korean “Hana Korea” and quirky Finnish debut “The Squirrel.” Proof of REinvent’s A-festival pulling power, is its recent film sales bet “Beginnings” by “Wildland’’s Jeanette Nordahl starring Dencik and Trine Dyrholm, which will world premiere at Berlin’s Panorama section, while the premium shows “Heajastallan-a Sámi Wedding” and “Vigdís” will bow at the Berlinale Series Market Select.

Annika Pham Hailed by Variety as “a superb historical drama about the Far-Right’s threatto democracy, the movie “Quisling: The Final Days” helmed by Norway’s top filmmaker Erik Poppe, impressed audiences at the last Toronto Film Festival where it bowed as a Special Presentation. At home the story of Norway’s infamous Nazi collaborator Vidkun Quisling, whose name has become a byword for traitor, stirred intense public debate and ended up as the third biggest Norwegian film of 2024.

Iran has selected In the Arms of the Tree as its candidate for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.

Norway has selected Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s Armand, starring Renata Reinsve, to represent it in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.

Alissa Simon Film Critic Both a bold historical drama and a penetrating psychological study of a delusional authoritarian, “Quisling -The Final Days” is perhaps the strongest work yet from veteran Norwegian helmer Erik Poppe (“1,000 Times Good Night”). It serves as a bookend of sorts to “The King’s Choice,” his 2016 hit, which dealt with the first three days of Germany’s invasion of Norway in 1940.

Annika Pham One of Norway’s biggest export names, whose credits include Juliette Binoche starrer “1,000 Times Good Night” and Golden Bear nominee “Utøya- July 22,” director Erik Poppe will kick off the Norwegian Film Festival in Haugesund on Aug. 18, with his much-anticipated drama “Quisling – The Final Days,” ahead of the film’s international premiere at Toronto’s Special Presentations. Although set in Norway during WWII, the film explores today’s pressing issue of the rise of right wing extremism and its threat to democracy.

Annika Pham More than 250 international guests, including 53 buyers from 18 countries, have signed up for the Norwegian International Film Festival’s three-day industry event New Nordic Films in Haugesund, which will fête its 30th anniversary and kickoff with Charlotte Sieling’s drama “Way Home.” Some of the strongest filmmakers from the region and beyond – including Erik Poppe, Dag Johan Haugerud, Selma Vilhunen, Zaida Bergroth, Rúnar Rúnarsson – will be screening or pitching their next projects, next to scores of rising talents. “Our DNA hasn’t changed,” said Line Halvorsen, who joined New Nordic Films four years ago and is serving as acting director, temporarily filling in for Gyda Velvin Myklebust.

Annika Pham From Aug. 17-23, the charming coastal town of Haugesund, Norway, will showcase 76 films and 21 shorts in the newly renovated Edda film hub, offering two extra screening rooms, bringing the total halls to seven.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent “The Worst Person in the World” actor Anders Danielsen Lie and Gard B. Eidsvold (“Wisting”) are set to headline Erik Poppe’s “Quisling.” The film charts the last days of Vidkun Quisling, the former Prime Minister of Norway who was a notorious Nazi collaborator during World War II. The project also comprises a TV series which has been commissioned by TV2. Danielsen Lie will play the priest Peder Olsen who acted as Quisling’s counselor in prison until he was executed on Oct. 24, 1945. Set to start shooting this week, the film is produced by Paradox, SF Studios’ Norwegian production company.

Marta Balaga Norwegian director Erik Poppe takes on Vilhelm Moberg’s acclaimed series of novels in “The Emigrants,” his new historical drama about a struggling Swedish family which emigrates to the U.S. in 1849, searching for a better future.  “It’s probably the most classic work of literature in the whole Scandinavia,” he told Variety, taking about the 2022 Haugesund Festival winner ahead of its national premiere at the 50th Norwegian International Film Festival Haugesund.  Which is why, when approached to direct the film, he had only one reservation: He had to make it his own. 

Annika Pham Legendary actor-director-writer Liv Ullmann, the first Norwegian to receive an Honorary Oscar, is being celebrated on home turf, as part of the golden jubilee of Haugesund’s Norwegian Film Festival, for which she is honorary president.The festival which runs Aug. 20-26, is also screening her 2000 Palme d’or entry “Faithless,” penned by Ingmar Bergman, who made her a household name, and Erik Poppe’s “The Emigrants,” a modern version of Jan Troell’s classic which earned her an Oscar nomination in 1973.The luminary stage and screen actor-director, featured in Viaplay’s upcoming English-language three-part series “Liv Ullmann – The Road Less Travelled,” spoke to Variety ahead of the Liv Ullmann symposium and tribute in Haugesund on Aug. 22.

The film’s cast includes Lisa Carlehed (“In Your Arms”) and Gustaf Skarsgård (“438 days”), who star opposite Sofia Helin, Lena Strömdahl and Swedish pop sensation Tove Lo.REinvent International Sales has also closed deals for former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Film Europe) and Hungary (Vertigo).Helene Aurø, REinvent sales and marketing director, pointed out that “The Emigrants” will be one of the first films shown by Viaplay’s newly launched US platform.
