Thania Garcia Not long after Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” became the first top-five regional Mexican hit on the songs chart, Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny notch the second with the No. 5 entrance of “un x100to.” Produced and composed by Latin music hitmakers Edgar Barrera and MAG, “un x100to” is the Texas-bred Grupo Frontera’s first Hot 100 top 10 hit and Bad Bunny’s ninth. The cumbia song logs over 28.6 million streams and 6.3 million airplay impressions while the corrido “Ella Baila Sola” rises to No. 4 — the highest peak in the genre’s history — after debuting at No. 17 and rising to No. 5 in the last tracking week. Both “unx100to” and “Ella Baila Sola” also lead Billboard’s international global songs chart with rising artist Peso Pluma clocking in a third collaboration, “La Bebe” with Yvng Lucas, in the top 10.

It was a big night for música Mexicana as Edgar Barrera, one of the most sought-after songwriters and producers of the last few years, was given the first-ever Impact award for his award-winning contributions across genres like contemporary Latin and regional Mexican. Throughout the night, he returned to the stage to accept over 10 trophies as the most recognized songwriter at this year’s ceremony. (He was also the top-nominated act at last year’s Latin Grammys.)

Thania Garcia Marshmello is helping Manuel Turizo get over his ex in a new music video for the duo’s first cross-genre collaboration titled “El Merengue.” On Thursday, the duo premiered the track that puts a fresh spin on merengue with layered electro beats and Turizo’s rich baritone vocals. The video, directed by Chadrick Preuss and Sandeep Vadlamudi, follows a lovestruck Turizo who is hung up on an ex-flame that he casually runs into one night at a crowded nightclub. In the heat of the moment, the Colombian singer and his ex sway to the rhythms of the sultry merengue beat. Overtaken by rekindled emotions — and liquid courage — Turizo ends up retching into the nightclub’s toilet while an unmasked Marshmello listens from the next stall over.

The names might not be familiar to everyone, and that’s exactly the point: the award is intended to “honors the people whose job is to write songs for others,” Evan Bogart, a Grammy-winning songwriter and chair of the Academy’s songwriters and composers wing, told Variety earlier this month (and whose name is also on the list). “It’s for the ones who can say, ‘Hey, I’m not performing at the Grammys; I’m not on the cover of Rolling Stone and you’re not going to know my name — but you’re singing my melodies and lyrics.’” The songwriters on the list have written for artists ranging from Beyonce, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes to Maren Morris and Blake Shelton, and many others.

Thania Garcia Bad Bunny reigns over this year’s Latin Grammys, earning a total of 10 nominations, including nods for “Un Verano Sin Ti” for album of the year and for the Bomba Esteréo-featuring “Ojitos Lindos” for record of the year. Bad Bunny has yet to earn wins in any of the big four categories. However, with his nominations for “Un Verano Sin Ti,” he becomes the first artist to get three album of the year nods in a row. He was also nominated in the same category twice for best urban fusion/performance, best reggaeton performance and best urban song. His remaining nominations are in the best urban album and best rap/hip-hop song categories. Also raking in multiple nods were Mexican producer-songwriter Edgar Barrera who earned nine, Rauw Alejandro with eight and Christina Aguilera with seven. Aguilera is nominated in three of the big four categories, including album of the year for “Aguilera”; she joins Becky G, Nicki Nicole and Nathy Peluso in a nomination for record of the year and song of the year for their track “Pa Mis Muchachas.”
