Deadline has launched the streaming site for its second annual Sound & Screen, an award-season composer showcase of original music for television.

Daniel Pemberton composed the music for Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Lord and Miller then hired him for their Apple TV+ series The Afterparty, but the job was exponentially more complicated.

Seeing superstar Will Smith visit remote locations on the planet was the hook for the National Geographic docuseries Welcome to Earth. Daniel Pemberton’s job was to provide Smith’s journey with a sound, and he said during a panel for the series at Deadline’s Sound & Screen concert event that he used some he’d never played before.

As Deadline exclusively broke on March 31 (and as I also detailed earlier in today’s Notes on the Season column), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed that for the first time ever all five nominated songs will not be a part of the actual Oscar ceremony but rather performed in their entirety on the 90-minute pre-show “Oscars: Into the Spotlight.” Four of them will be pre-recorded at the Dolby Family Terrace of the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, and one will be recorded from Iceland.
