Another day, another red carpet! The 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards are just hours away — and viewers can expect fan-favorite stars to slay.

A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once scored nine nominations and Focus Features’ Tár followed with seven to lead the way Thursday in film noms for the 14th annual Dorian Awards, bestowed by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.

After last night’s Golden Globe thing, we had only less than 12 hours to regroup and prepare for the real deal: First SAG nominations, and then DGA, the initial two major guild indicators of where the real sentiment may lie before Oscar voting begins tomorrow. With Producers Guild, often a very Oscar-predictive list as well, still to come also tomorrow the best barometers of where industry thinking is at the moment will be on the table.

The Screen Actor’s Guild had their year-end say at sunrise and a few hours later, the Directors Guild of America revealed their own nominees for the 2023 DGA Awards. For the most prestigious honor, Theatrical Feature Film, the nominees are Todd Field (“TAR”), Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Steven Spielberg (“The Fablemans”).

The Directors Guild of America has nominated Tár‘s Todd Field, Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, The Banshees of Inisherin‘s Martin McDonagh and The Fabelmans’ Steven Spielberg for the top feature film prize at its 75th annual DGA Awards.

Michelle Yeoh playfully brushed off exit music at Tuesday's 80th annual Golden Globe awards, as she accepted the honors for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy Category for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.The Malaysia-born actress, 60, who was honored for her performance as Evelyn Wang at the event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, continued with her acceptance speech after producers began playing piano music while she was speaking.'Shut up ... Welcome back, awards season! Hollywood’s biggest stars are gearing up to mingle at the 28th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, held at Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.

The Banshees Of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once head the nominations for the 12th edition of the AACTA International Awards, with six nods apiece. They were followed by Elvis with four nominations.

Nine months after world premieringtheir martial arts fantasy feature Everything Everywhere All at Once to roaring crowds at SXSW and watching it go on to become the highest grossing specialty title of the year, A24’s best ever, at $70M US/$103M WW, directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert remain gobsmacked.

A platoon of titles hits the specialty circuit this weekend, getting in ahead of steamroller Avatar: Way of Water and the year-end deadline for Oscar eligibility. This is a soul-searching, what-lies-ahead moment for a market still much too inconsistent for comfort, but that can be pondered later. At the moment, indie distributors are quite busy “with all these movies, and these plans to release theatrically. We are not going anywhere,” said one executive.

The 2022 Gotham Award nominations are out this morning — the October noms and late November event are industry bellwethers, coming at the start of awards season following fall festival buzz. More to come, but here’s the list below.

Universal Pictures continues to build on its strong relationships with filmmakers as it has closed a deal for an exclusive five year pact with directing duo, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels, and their producing partner Jonathan Wang.  Daniels unique brand of award-winning storytelling across visual media platforms has spanned music, television and film, most recently with the breakout success of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which has grossed more than $100 million globally becoming indie studio A24’s biggest film ever.

Showtime has given a green light to half-hour comedy pilot Mason, from comedian Nathan Min (Joe Pera Talks To You), who also stars, Daniels (Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan), the team behind the box-office hit film Everything Everywhere All At Once, Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari) and A24.

While she’s sitting with her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) across from inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdra (Jamie Lee Curtis), she’s suddenly transported into a parallel dimension and spends the film jumping through multiverses.The scene comes towards the end of the film, during an all-out fight as Evelyn tries to save her daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) from the so-called “everything bagel.” The bagel creates an all-consuming black void that can set off the end of the world, and ultimately destroy Joy.
