On today’s Crew Call we talk with The English composer Federico Jusid, who came into Hollywood’s spotlight after the industry caught his score on the Oscar winning 2009 foreign film, The Secret in Their Eyes.

Emily Blunt just added another string to her bow. From Queen Victoria to Mary Poppins, to a cutthroat Vogue assistant in The Devil Wears Prada, a gun-toting alien killer in A Quiet Place and a straight-up action hero in Edge of Tomorrow, one thing Blunt had never done was a Western. But her role in Hugo Blick’s The English is no damsel in distress: Cornelia Locke is a woman dead set on revenge, with the bow and arrow to prove it. Teamed up with Chaske Spencer as Eli Whipp, a Pawnee warrior, Blunt brings a complex, real woman to the Wild West.

The 39-year-old actress stars as Cornelia Locke in the 2022 drama series She told Closer UK: "It was so hot. I have never been hotter than that in my life - and I shot in Atlanta in the middle of summer and thought I'd never experience heat like that.

Marta Balaga Emily Blunt left her mark on Cannes, and not just with her acclaimed performances.  The actor, in town for the pre-Mipcom premiere of the first episode of her six-part series “The English,” also left a handprint in wet concrete, joining the likes of Jodie Foster, Meryl Streep or David Lynch. Blunt was joined on the red carpet by co-star Chaske Spencer, as well as writer and director Hugo Blick, the latter also behind Maggie Gyllenhaal starrer “The Honorable Woman.”  In “The English,” Blunt plays an aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke, who comes to America in the 1890s. It’s hardly a welcoming place, but she joins forces with Pawnee Scout Eli Whipp. She is hoping to track down a man who is responsible for her son’s death. He wants to reclaim his land. 

Emily Longeretta Chaske Spencer wants people to talk. The actor, a member of the Fort Peck Tribe, knows that his new Amazon Prime Video/BBC series, “The English,” will get people talking. Written and directed by award-winning Hugo Blick, the Western drama is led by Spencer and Emily Blunt, who portray Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp and Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke, respectively. They come together in 1890 mid-America as they search for the new town of Hoxem, Wyo. They only recognize their differences not knowing their pasts are woven together.   What drew you to this story and to Eli?  I was excited and intrigued by the character of Eli and the story. What drew me to him was his past and who he was and just the weight of that — the weight of someone in transition, because when we meet Eli, he’s off to go home. He wants to go back home. I love the quote, ‘Sometimes you have to see a thing to let it go.’ I think that’s where he was going. I love the stillness of the character. I love the way Hugo Blick wrote it and I liked working with him to help me create that character and bring him to life.  

The English,” starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer. All six episodes of the limited series will premiere on November 11 exclusively in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordics on Prime Video, following its November 10 UK premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. The series is created by Hugo Blick, who also serves as an executive producer, director and writer. The series follows aristocratic Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke, played by Blunt, and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout named Eli Whipp, played by Spencer. They come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood.
