Following the success of the official opening season of Aviva Studios, Factory International has announced a captivating line up for its 2024 spring programme at the city's landmark venue.

Brian Eno, as well as members of Fontaines D.C., R.E.M, Bastille and more have read out letters from Palestinians suffering in Gaza as part of a ‘Voices For Gaza’ initiative.The clips have been shared on the Instagram page for Voices For Gaza, and sees famous faces from across the entertainment industry read letters from those in Palestine aloud, recalling the graphic details of the war.It aims to help raise funds for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians and bring awareness to the ongoing crisis happening in the country.At time of writing, the conflict has led to the deaths of over 34,600 Palestinians. The attacks by Hamas on October 7 last year killed over 1,200 people.Among those who have taken part in the charity initiative is Brian Eno, who reads out a letter from a civilian in Gaza, written in February 2024.

David Gilmour has announced ‘Luck And Strange’ – his first solo album in nine years with the LP’s first offering being released later this week.The former Pink Floyd guitarist is set to release the album’s lead single ‘The Piper’s Call’ on Thursday (April 25) on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. The track’s accompanying music video will be released on Friday (April 26).‘Luck and Strange’ is set for release on September 6.

Netflix hit Baby Reindeer has revealed that he “feels sorry” for the stalker character in the show.The show has been created by comedian Richard Gadd, and is based on his 2019 one-man play of the same name. It depicts a version of the real-life story of his own stalking ordeal.The synopsis clarifies that the show focuses “on struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Gadd) strange and layered relationship with a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning), whose initially friendly demeanour unravels as she begins to stalk Donny relentlessly”.“Their first interaction is innocent enough: While working his shift as a bartender, Donny shows an act of kindness to Martha, a customer whose vulnerability is readily apparent,” the synopsis adds.“But, as the saying goes, ‘no good deed goes unpunished,’ and this casual encounter sparks a suffocating obsession that threatens to wreck both their lives and forces Donny to face his deeply buried trauma.”In a new interview with Variety, Gadd said that he intended to make the Martha character somewhat sympathetic, based on his experiences.“Stalking usually is depicted as someone who is kind of evil, whereas I felt like there was a vulnerable person who genuinely couldn’t stop, who for whatever reason had believed the reality that was inside her head and no matter what couldn’t change from that,” he said.“I mean, it is a mental illness and I wanted to portray that.

Brian Eno has spoken about his “powerful” David Bowie collaboration ‘Get Real’ which he is now reworking as part of a new climate change album project.The record, titled ‘Sounds Right’, has been developed by Eno in conjunction with the Museum for the United Nations, in the lead-up to Earth Day on April 22. Aurora and London Grammar are among the other artists enlisted as part of the project.‘Sounds Right’ also sees Mother Nature becoming recognised as an official artist, with her own profile on major streaming platforms, with tracks posted that include sounds from the natural world, including ocean waves, wind, rainstorms and birdsongs. As the accredited artist, ‘Nature’ will also receive royalties for the tracks as they are played.Bowie and Eno’s track ‘Get Real’ is a reworking of a song they recorded together during the ‘1.

Ultravox, has died aged 71.The death of Chris Cross was announced last night (April 1) by lead vocalist Midge Ure. Cross passed away on March 25; no cause of death was given.Ure wrote: “We worked together, we played together, made music and directed videos together. We were instant friends as well as Ultravox comrades.

Pulp‘s Jarvis Cocker has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers of The Great Escape‘s newly revamped conference.The Brighton festival will be returning from May 15-18 and will play host to a raft of speakers from across the music industry.Cocker will be presenting a talk on May 18 called ‘Biophobia’, a a special climate-themed talk about getting to grips with nature. It will be presented by EarthPercent, the charity founded by Brian Eno to help the music industry support the most prominent organisations tackling the climate emergency.Meanwhile, Darcus Beese OBE will give the conference’s opening keynote conversation on May 15 in which he is set to reflect on his career as the UK’s first black record company CEO and his prestige as an A&R, having been responsible for signing and nurturing artists like Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine and U2.Another of the keynote speeches will be delivered by Tom Gray, Chair of the Ivors Academy and Labour Party prospective candidate for Brighton Pavilion, and Yolanda Brown OBE DL, musician, broadcaster and Chair of the BPI.

Brian Eno, Nadine Shah and Maxine Peake will be among the performers at a special benefit event in support of Palestine at London’s Union Chapel on April 18. The show, which is titled Sumud and promises “a fundraising evening of music, spoken word and film for Palestine”, will be hosted by Amos Trust and Palestine Music Expo, and tickets are available here. All proceeds will go to Amos Trust’s emergency appeal for Gaza.

Roxy Music‘s frontman Bryan Ferry has sold 50 per cent of his music catalogue in a deal with Iconic Artist Group.The deal includes a range of assets from Ferry’s music career including his solo work as well as the work from his time with Roxy Music. Iconic Artists Group also acquired half of the singer’s sound recording, publishing, and name, image and likeness rights.

Paul McCartney, Sting and Brian Eno – shared a lengthy message on X/Twitter yesterday (March 6) about his serious health issue.It came after Sawhney told his followers on Monday (March 4) that he was “about to go through something pretty major”, but said he couldn’t disclose any details. “Wish me luck,” he wrote in the post.In a follow-up tweet, the musician said he had “decided to explain [himself]” further “after much reflection”.“A few days ago, out of nowhere, I had a heart attack.

Dave Grohl singing and dancing along to U2 at the final night of their Sphere residency has been doing the rounds on social media.The Foo Fighters frontman was among those at the Irish rock band’s final date of their MSG Sphere residency in Las Vegas this past weekend (March 2). A video taken by a fan at the show sees Grohl rocking out and singing along to U2’s ‘Beautiful Day’ while holding a glass of wine.

Jarvis Cocker has spoken to NME about debuting his latest project ‘Biophobia’, describing it as “my attempt to get to grips with nature”. He also spoke about more gigs being on the horizon for Pulp.The frontman was speaking before delivering ‘Biophobia’ at GEI – Green Events and Innovations conference – in London on Tuesday (February 27).

CPH: DOX, Copenhagen’s International Documentary Festival, has set the full lineup for its 2024 edition, including 84 world premieres, 32 international premieres, and 9 European premieres. 

Brian Eno has announced the official soundtrack for his upcoming documentary film, Eno.The musician took to social media to announce the documentary’s accompanying soundtrack, which is due for release digitally on April 19, and on physical in North America and Mexico on June 7 – pre-order your copy now.A post shared by Brian Eno (@brianeno)The soundtrack will consist of 17 tracks, featuring “work from early solo outings, acclaimed collaborations with the likes of David Bryne, John Cale, Cluster and more recently, Fred again… all the way through to music from his latest album, ‘FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE’, and his 2022 appearance at the Acropolis in Athens with brother Roger.”The record will also include three previously unreleased songs – one of which, titled Lighthouse #429′ has now been shared. David Bowie once played his album ‘Outside’ for him and Gary Oldman before it had been released.Wright and Oldman co-starred in the 1996 film Basquiat alongside Bowie, a biopic focusing on the life of the American painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. In the film, Wright played the titular artist, while Bowie portrayed Basquiat’s mentor, Andy Warhol. Oldman, meanwhile, played another artist, a character loosely based on the film’s director, Julian Schnabel.In a new interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Wright revealed that in a spare moment during the shooting of the film, Bowie decided to test out his new material on his fellow cast members.“I remember one day we were in the hair and makeup trailer — Gary Oldman was in the film as well — we’re sitting there and David walks in,” Wright said.

In 1972, when he first came onto the scene as the 24-year-old synthesizer wizard of Roxy Music, he sported a look that was pure glam, except that he somehow appeared even more baroque than the gender-bending rock stars of the time (the New York Dolls, Bowie, Lou Reed), because they were Dionysian pansexual strutters, whereas Eno was his own unique thing: a delicate sci-fi gamine, a geek in thrift-shop drag.
