Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and Media Katie Sinclair has been named the new head of development at Riff Raff Entertainment, the development and production company co-founded by Oscar-nominated actor Jude Law and creative partner Ben Jackson.   She joins from Blueprint Pictures, where her credits as a development executive include Martin McDonagh’s upcoming “Banshees of Inisherin,” which is seen as a major awards season player and will screen at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals; “The Beautiful Game,” directed by Thea Sharrock; and Andrew Haigh’s “Strangers,” which stars Andrew Scott,  Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell. Sinclair has worked on “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” for Sony 3000 and Netflix. She has been heavily involved in sourcing and shepherding Blueprint’s slate of feature film projects.

Manori Ravindran International EditorSalma Hayek and Annie Murphy are in talks to star in the new season of “Black Mirror,” Variety can reveal.The dystopian Netflix series is slowly assembling a star-studded roster of talent for its long-awaited Season 6, with Hayek and Murphy the latest actors set to join the cast.Variety previously revealed that the new season has signed Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton and Anjana Vasan. Elsewhere, Deadline reported that Rory Culkin, who was most recently seen in FX’s “Under the Banner of Heaven,” is also joining the show.Hayek recently wrapped on Angelina Jolie’s new movie “Without Blood,” which has been filming in Italy, and stars in Steven Soderbergh’s forthcoming “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” She also starred in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” and Marvel’s “Eternals.” A Hayek-produced series on the death of Argentina’s Eva Perón, titled “Santa Evita,” aired on Disney’s Star last month.

Naman Ramachandran Global short film network ShortsTV has launched its SVOD service on Amazon Prime Video Channels in the U.S.The service is available as an add-on subscription to Prime members at $1.99 per month after a seven-day free trial. Available at launch are 500 short films, including “The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers,” starring Kiera Knightley and Rupert Friend; “Nancy, Sid & Sergio,” starring Charlie Cox; “Silent Things,” starring Andrew Scott, “Interstate,” starring Gina Rodriguez; and “Hotel,” starring Art Malik.In addition, alongside ShortTV’s annual theatrical release of Oscar nominated shorts, Prime members will also get access to these, as well as original shows taking audiences behind the scenes on the road to the Oscars, including leading film festivals and award shows including the BAFTAs, and interviews with award-winning filmmakers.

EXCLUSIVE: It’s been nearly 20 years since their hit action thriller Man On Fire blew away audiences and further helped solidify Dakota Fanning as a future star but it now looks like she is ready to reteam with the Oscar Winning Denzel Washington. Sources tell Deadline, Fanning is set to star opposite Washington in Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 3 for Sony Pictures.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media ReporterLena Dunham’s next film “Catherine, Called Birdy” will play in theaters before landing on Amazon Prime.The movie has been scheduled to open Sept. 23 in select cinemas and Oct. 7 on Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video.Dunham wrote and directed the Medieval coming-of-age story, which is based on Karen Cushman’s children’s book.

Black Mirror is in development.Variety reports that a source said that the forthcoming Netflix series is more cinematic in scope and will comprise more episodes than season five, which aired in 2019.The previous three-episode season starred Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace and Miley Cyrus.As Variety notes, the new season of Black Mirror will be the first since since creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow, which was backed and licensed by Endemol Shine Group, in January 2020.Brooker and Jones have since set up their own company, Broke and Bones, which Netflix invested in as part of a five-year arrangement.Part of the reason why there haven’t been any new episodes for three years is because Endemol Shine Group (acquired by Banijay Group in 2020) continued to own the rights to Black Mirror. A license deal between Banijay Rights and Netflix has since been reached.The future of Black Mirror was also in doubt a couple of years ago.

Manori Ravindran International EditorA new series of “Black Mirror” is in the works at Netflix, Variety can reveal.It’s been almost three years since Season 5 of the dystopian drama premiered on the streaming service in June 2019, but sources indicate that a new anthology series of “Black Mirror” is shaping up, and casting is now underway.While details about specific stories are being kept under lock and key, Variety understands that Season 6 will have more episodes than Season 5, which comprised of just three instalments and starred Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace and Miley Cyrus.A source close to the production tells Variety that the latest season is even more cinematic in scope, with each instalment being treated as an individual film. This is, of course, in line with recent seasons of “Black Mirror,” for which episodes usually exceeded 60 minutes and had incredibly high production values.

Ripley with Sherlock actor Andrew Scott, was set to stay at the Hotel Danieli.But he was refused entry after his vaccination card was found to be out of date, according to the Gazzettino newspaper.A ‘Super Green Card’ is needed in Italy to provide proof of vaccination to enter all indoor venues in the country including restaurants, hotels and public transport.Vaccination passes are currently valid in Italy for nine months after the date of the last dose, whether that is the second or third jab.NME has contacted representatives for Malkovich for comment.Malkovich is expected to be in Italy for the next month filming the TV adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr Ripley, which was made into a film in 1999 with Matt Damon taking up the lead role.Three years later, Malkovich played an older version of the lead character in Ripley’s Game.The forthcoming Showtime series will see Ripley played by Andrew Scott, with Malkovich and Dakota Fanning also starring.Set in the 1960s, the new show will see Ripley hired by a wealthy New Yorker to travel to Italy to convince his wayward son Dickie to return home. But along the way, Ripley starts to weave a complex web of deceit with murderous consequences.
