Professor James Naismith, director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute at the University of Oxford, says many of the 1,228 who have died from Covid-19 were infected weeks before social distancing measures were put in place.
On Sunday, a further 209 people in the UK died from the disease, lower than Saturday's total of 260, but other experts warn it would be wrong to assume the disease was under control, HullLive reports.
