A neighbourless pensioner was gobsmacked when he was released from hospital - to find a whole new housing estate had sprung up around his property.
Charles Wright, 70, has lived in the same house all of his life, in what was a bustling community. But 20 years ago the area was reduced to wasteland when the local council began offering residents money to sell their houses so they could be demolished.He had no intention of leaving the property, which has been in his family for 100 years, and knocked back the offer.But the other residents took up the offer, turning his once mid-terraced four-bedroom house into a detached property, leaving him with no neighbours.
