An elderly man died on a UK beach in November after climbing the six-foot gate of his care home in a bid to return home to his wife, an inquest heard.Alan Porteous from Brightlingsea went missing from Five Stacks Care Home on November 21, 2019.
The 77-year-old had suffered from a long list of ailments including epilepsy, liver damage, nuclear cataracts, and hearing loss.An inquest heard that he also had a depressive episode, gastritis and duodenitis, retinal detachment, essential hypertension and alcoholism on his medical records.At Essex Coroners' Court yesterday, HM Area Coroner Lincoln Brookes heard that Mr Porteous, who required regular medication for epilepsy, had managed to escape the home where he had been temporarily placed for.
