Paramount Network has just announced that its’ popular television series, Yellowstone, is getting a prequel series!

Joe Otterson TV ReporterA “Yellowstone” prequel series is set at Paramount Plus under an extension of series co-creator Taylor Sheridan’s overall deal with ViacomCBS.The prequel, “Y: 1883,” follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is described as a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.The show will debut on Paramount Plus in 2021, with a special sneak preview set to air during the Super Bowl this Sunday.

Yellowstone co-creator/executive producer Taylor Sheridan has signed a massive new overall deal with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group for multiple new series, starting with Yellowstone prequel Y: 1883 for Paramount+, which will be unveiled with a teaser during the Super Bowl on CBS this Sunday (You can watch it above.)

One of the films that had initially been pegged as a potential 2020 awards player was Taylor Sheridan’s Those Who Wish Me Dead. Starring Angelina Jolie, the movie is another western type work from Sheridan, representing his second directorial effort. Of course, the year came and went, but with the flick being at Warner Bros., it’s head towards a hybrid theatrical and streaming releasee here in 2021. Now, we know that it’s going to hit on May 14th, both in theaters as well as on HBO Max. Will it be an Oscar contender next year? Time will tell, but at least we now know when we can see it!
